hey man. gotta question. i have an issue with the gator trifold with small leaks around the foam pad when it rains. looks like the foam pads are around the slotted areas of the bed trim as shown in the pic below. have you seen this before? what could i do to fix this issue?

Thankfully I still haven’t noticed any leaks with mine. Could maybe be a balance between having it not on tight enough, or even possibly too tight.

My latest gripe however, is that the sagging top now results in fairly large pools of water on top after it rains. Usually the first couple hits of the brakes sends it all flying off... but thinking ahead to winter when those big puddles turn into big ice chunks. Already considering investing in a new top.

The water/ice wouldn't be any problems with pooling on the cover. These covers are tested and manufactured in Michigan so that wouldn't be a concern. With the water leaking, I would normally say it may be a combination of things as the bed caps are not flush and the tension holding the cover is either too tight or loose. I would recommend giving us a call and speaking with my tech team to see if they can assist in getting the cover to be a little more weather resistant.

    do you have a number?

when you say bed caps, do you mean the tonneau itself or the trim along the top of the bed?

Yes, give us a call at 877-216-5446 and they can assist you. Also, I was talking about the bed caps of our trucks not being flat and having ridges for water to run along. The seal is one shape and while it does a good job contouring to the bed caps it will allow some through.

Give them a call though and they can see what they can do to help.

thanks. I may just run a small bead of rtv to close the gaps in the contours to see if that helps.

    Hello,

For those of you who were wondering which Tonneau I decided to go with. I went with:

    https://www.realtruck.com/gator-tri-fold-tonneau-cover/R184496P2017Y608MA.html

I installed it yesterday, took me about an hour because I was taking my time. It looks like it could be worth 3 times what it is. I am very happy with the way it came out. It makes the truck look a lot nicer. If any of you are interested, talk to @Zach.RealTruck and he will be able to help you out. Great customer service and fast shipping. I will buy another one just like it once this is one starts to grow old.

Can a toolbox be accessed with the Gator tri fold? Does the front section fold back?

It does not fold back. Though it’s not that hard to just loosen the two front clamps and pull the whole thing off. Not necessarily the most convenient thing to do, but would work.

A little something every chance we get.
I am in full agreement. I have put a Truxedo on 4 Tacos, and loved everyone. They get better and better. No leaks to speak of, well built, VERY easy to deal with in terms of day to day use. Give it a 6 month Armor All, and it will always look new.

I'm planning on ditching my gator and 99% sure this is what I'm going to go with.

I ended up picking up a Gator Pro Tri-Fold on Amazon Prime for $107. It was listed as "Used/Return" but all of the parts were there and it was in new condition as far as I can tell. Even the packaging and hardware looked new. Best deal on a bed cover that I've come across.

So far, looks just like what I was looking for and seems pretty sturdy. The only downside is that it wasn't possible to attach the forward clips to the factory track system with my tool box in place so the toolbox had to go. Looking for smaller bed storage alternatives like the Undercover swing-away wheel well boxes- if I can find them at a reasonable price.

So in resurrecting this thread, I am leaning toward buying a Gator from RealTruck. This seems to be among the best of the tri-fold covers at this price point. If anyone thinks that there is a better tri-fold for $ 300 or under, please chime in. I can afford anything, but the hard cover and revolving covers seem a bit tedious to install and remove, since I will be removing the cover for large loads.

I have the gator tri-fold pro. It has been on the truck since last July. So far no fading and it is holding up nicely but that is only one summer and one winter. I am also in the south. Takes about 5 minutes to take it completely off by myself. In short it is a great top for the money. Enjoy
