I plan on getting the new rough country 6 inch lift for 1st gen Tacos. I currently have 15x8 wheels with 31's and I wanted to put on 33's but Rough Country recommends 17 inch wheels and 33'' tires with the lift. I really don't want to spend for a new set of rims. I was confused on why I will need to get larger rims so I've contacted Rough Country and they said due to the wheel to spindle and control arm contact. Is there any modifications I can do to fix clearance issues???? Wheel spacers?
    :brianr:EDIT GETTING OME 881 3'' 2 MUCH HATE ON DROP BRACKET LIFT:brianr:

You know you can fit 33's with just 3" lift, right?

Also, Rough Country is the cheapest 6" lift for a reason...

Im pretty sure this has been explained before but you you need 17” rims due to clearance issues, smaller rims rub on stuff or atleast that is what they told me when i talked to them last time for another member.

Let me see if i can find those chats so @jbrandt doesnt have to keep repating him self in all these 6” lift questions lol

I should just start copy-pasting. lol

Reminds me of that meme where a guy had a stamp made to sign his coworkers' birthday cards. Hilarious.

I actually don't have all that much against the 6" lifts, per se, at least the ones that don't use ball joint spacers like the rough county does. There are just far better routes if you intend to off road with it, and they're unnecessary if all you're wanting is to fit 33's.

By the way, that's a fine lookin Husky you got.

And op in just guessing here but there must be something that sticks out that would hit a 15” rim so they say 17” now maybe you can clear if you run some massive wheel spacer(which I highly don’t recommend) so it pushes the 15” far enough out to clear whatever it would be hitting. But the. Your wheels will stick extremely far out and ik in most states you need to be able to cover your wheels

@Vince_igitol670, it would be helpful to know what you are trying to achieve. Is your plan to go offroading? Or do you just like the look of a 6" lift?

If you want to go off-roading, I HIGHLY recommend NOT going with a 6" lift. Do a 3" lift, something like the OME full kit. ~$1200 for all new springs/shocks, then get a diff drop kit and an extended rear brake line.

If you like the look of a 6", then I'd really suggest saving up and getting a Pro-comp or Fabtech. My front coilovers alone cost more than the complete RC 6" lift system - that should tell you something...

Yes it's much more expensive than the Rough Country. But this kit does it properly, but using taller spindles instead of balljoint spacers, although it does still use a block lift in the back, which IMO isn't great... But for general daily driving and minor off roading, it'll be fine.

Youre also gonna catch a lot of crap whenever you take this truck in for service. Especially since in your last thread you mentioned your truck is getting a brand new frame right now. If I had a new frame, the absolute last thing I would do is cut it up and install a drop bracket kit. Kiss any chances at future recalls or warranties related to the suspension or frame goodbye. At my Toyota dealer, if you come in with a heavily modded truck or car and complain about things unrelated to the mods, they will still blame you for installing aftermarket parts. Just not worth the hassle in my opinion. Go 3" and you wont regret it. By the way, are installing this thing yourself?
Edit: Kiss resale value goodbye too. I know most on here swear to never sell their trucks but stuff happens. And if you get in a wreck, whats the insurance company gonna say about that 6" lift? Not good things is what I think.

 I didn't see that, I need to be more observant, lol

Ok, @Vince_igitol670, try to keep a single thread going, m'kay? Same topic, same thread, it just makes it easier for people to respond and not give duplicate responses, especially for those of us who pay little attention (or have little memory) of the names of the people who post (like me, lol).

    So, see my above post...

Don't mean to sound like a crotchety old jerk, it's not really a "big deal"... just trying to get you the best help possible. Having two separate threads can confuse the issue.

lol, hate is a strong word. I just want to try and make sure you're getting the best possible solution for your situation without going overkill. There are a LOT of people who hear from "that one friend" that you need a 6" lift, but really that's just to fit those shiny TSL boggers and to show off your chrome skid plate and drivelines...

    >If you are simply after the look that a 6" gives you, I'll fully support you in that, I would just stop short of recommending the Rough Country kit... I said before that my front coilovers cost more than that entire kit. That should tell you something.

    >But like I said, if your goal is just to fit 33's and plan to do a fair bit of off-roading, I'd steer you towards a 3" lift for the reasons I've talked about already. Most people get a small amount of rubbing, but nothing that hammering the pinch weld down doesn't cure. If you go with a tire size like a 255/85r16 mud terrain (the "pizza cutter" which IMO is a better all around tire for off-roading anyway), some don't get any rubbing at all, though some people don't like the "look" of the skinnies.

The OME kit you're now looking at should serve you well. It's probably one of the 2 most popular lift "kits" for the 0-3" lift market (the bilstein 5100s being the other). For about $1200, you can get ALL new springs and shocks, which is a pretty damn good deal, and what a lot of guys use to fit their 33's. Call up headstrong or downsouthmotorsports or wheelers, and they'll hook you up with the proper gear for your application, like which spring rate you should get.

Don't forget a diff drop and brake line extension for the rear...
