Going to get my shocks replaced. They're the original from 2000 with 185k miles of rough roads on them so they're time to go. The shop I'm going to suggested Rough Country shocks as a replacement. They gave me the option of either the 2.0's or the 2.2's. They told me the 2.2's are more stiff because they are for off-roading. My question is, because my truck is a double cab V6, should I go with stiffer shocks? Or will the 2.0's be fine? I have no experience in this so, I hope I can get some knowledge from here lol. Thanks!

From my experience Rough country shocks sucked. If you don;t have a lift I recommend Bilstein 5100 shocks for the front and Bilstein 5125 for the rear. Wheelers offroad has them both at a good price and you can just have the shop install them. Make sure you set the front shocks at the bottom setting for the factory ride height. This ebay dealer has the whole thing packaged together for about the same if not cheaper than wheelers offroad, you can even make them an offer.

In your original post you said "I have no experience in this ....... "

Why would you think that what c3 recommends (and even researches pricing for you) wouldn't give a better ride?

He said get oem bilsteins. If the ones he posted are more comfortable, then hey I'm all for it. When he said oem bilsteins, it threw me off.

No, he said 5100's. No where near the same as OE.

+1 on Bilsteins. I used Rough Country on my Chevy and was really disappointed.

New shocks and struts are going to have a firm ride until you put some miles on them,,so if you are looking for a extra super plush ride,,a different vehicle might be in order.

Just went from the Bill 5125 shocks in the rear (which were leaking within 3 years) to the new design Rough Country 2.0's in the rear. Definitely a softer ride between the two, The RC's were firm when new, but they have softened up a bit now. Thought I had the wrong shocks on the back when I had the Bill's on there when new,,they were quite stiff until a few miles were ran on them.

The old design Rough Countrys were sketchy to say the least. Replaced many of those shocks under shop warranty waay back in the day. We finally pulled the pin and got away from those, and just sold a XHD Napa shock, which was a updated Monroe shock with a napa sticker and white paint on the body. They did much better than the old Rough Country design.

Bought all my stuff from Wheelers,,good folks down there and easy to talk to on the phone. You might give them a buzz.

Went from blown oem to kyb gas adjust to 5100s. The kybs rode very good. So far 5100s (set at 2.5") arent as good but most likely because of the extra shock preload. Both have lifetime warranty.

I was speaking to Dan on the phone a while back for OME kit, but now I can't afford it. The shop I'm going to will give me a good price on labor as I know a friend of the owner and also work for a dealership they order parts from occasionally.

If your looking for budget shocks try out the KYB gas adjust shocks. My friend has them on his 03 pre runner and said they are good.

Its not that I'm on a budget, just can't spend $1,100 on suspension. I am pondering between Bilsteins and Rough Country. I haven't been able to let the shop put it on a rack to see if anything else needs replacing, so I could have other stuff
