    Hello everyone,
I'm about to replace my brakes on my 2014 Tacoma. Anybody have any brands of rotor and brake pads they highly recommend? I do highway and city driving with an occasional towing of a trailer. I'm not looking for high-end, but want to upgrade from Toyota rotors and brakes. The OEM brakes don't seem to last as long or have the stopping power I feel is essential in the city.
    Thanks!

I'm confused by the statement, OEM brakes don't seem to last as long. My 2010 has just turned over 90,000 miles and I checked the pads about a month or so ago and still had about 6mm/1/4in of pad left. I'll probably make 100,000 miles on the stock OEM pads. I've had two vehicles make 100,000 miles on front pads, a VW Jetta TDI and my Tacoma if it makes it. Our HHR had to have rotor and pads replaced as 40,000 miles and any other U.S. manufacturer vehicle I had never made it past 40,000 miles on pads. The only reason our HHR went that long is because the rotors were wrapped and I just let them go until I heard the screeching knowing I had to replace the rotors anyhow.

Ill be putting OEM back on my truck whenever I need them. No need for any brake upgrades on these trucks, even pushing the weight limits, imo

But personally speaking I’ll stick to oem or Hawk if going aftermarket. Cheers!

I always go OEM pads and re-use rotors if not warped. Aftermarket pads I've had bad luck with warping rotors, i just stick with OEM on those now.

Thanks for the suggestions, based on the comments I'll stick with the OEM brakes and rotors. Besides going to the dealer does anyone have an online Toyota parts dealer you like to order from? I've reading that some places on Amazon sell fake Toyota parts?

I haven't had the setup long enough to know what the lifespan will be. But, honestly, I never considered that, nor do I care. Not sure if the brakes on my truck were stock or some combo of aftermarket parts but I was blown away at how bad my braking was. It felt dangerous. Come to find out the brakes on these trucks just suck. Soon after that I started getting some vibration from the brakes which I attributed to being "warped" (likely aka pad material transfer) from getting too hot. This was under what I'd call normal off road conditions, nothing crazy and not towing or anything like that.

Doing the upgrade discussed in that thread has made the brakes SO MUCH better. They stop better and so far no issues with heat, material transfer, vibration...etc. They still aren't great but without spending a TON of $$ and having to upgrade to 17" wheels this is likely the best you're gonna get.

Even if these last only half as long as what was on the truck before I'd gladly change pads/rotors twice as often if that means better performance and safety. But that said I would expect these will last plenty long.

Uh, what? OEM is known for their longevity.

Dont reinvent the wheel, stick with what works. BUt I doubt you will listen either way.

There's a bunch of us that run PowerStop brakes (rotors and brake pads). I've had mine on for almost 60K now with no issues. I do similar driving, but a bunch of off roading on the weekends. My OEM had "warped" rotors, so this solved that issue for me. https://www.powerstop.com/product/power-stop-z36-brake-kit/

Choosing OEM is also a great option.

Just replaced my 15 with OEM rotors and pads over the weekend @ 70k, pads still had some life on them, but rotors were visibly warped.

I'm running PowerStop as well, have been for about 20,000 miles so can't give any long term report but they are working well and seemed to be good quality. I bought mine on RockAuto.

70K miles (2X) out of OEM. I see no reason to go with anything else.

Trying to remember about something I read here that they discontinued the TRD pads.
