I rotated and flipped my cupped tires and now I have a vibration at 40+mph and a growl at all speeds. Question is, will these tires eventually smooth out over a few thousand miles or do I need new tires?

Same direction of rotation on the tires?

Cupped or scalloped treads means you have alignment/camber/caster issues.

I'd correct that first before anything else.

Discount tire says they did cross rotation and I also told them to flip the tires around on the rim. As far as same direction I'm not sure what you mean. The stealership did an alignment on it a few months back.

Direction is the rolling direction, are they rolling the same way as before or a swap across the truck would make them roll "backwards".

Gotcha. Yes, they are running the other direction.

"The last three patterns would change the direction of the tires" is correct, unless you "flip the tires around on the rim, " like jsnm23 said he did. That would keep the direction the same. Right?

The reason I asked is that radial tires will take a "Set" based on their rotation, and reversing the direction of rotation will sometimes reduce the life of the tire. Bias ply tires don't have this issue as much.

True. They were flipped around on the rim so I guess not running opposite direction

Tire pressure was kept a bit high due to a crappy pressure gauge. Fronts were at 35 and rears 38. Could this be the cause of my problems?

High pressure will tend to wear out the center of the treads more then cupping. Sounds like an alignment check is in order.

I scheduled an alignment check with pep boys for Wednesday. I'm hoping it's not suspension related. I put in 5100s 20k ago so it better not be them

Front tires will cup like that even with proper alignment. Big nobs in the tread design are the worst.

I would think/hope over time these tires will smooth out. Am I wrong?

I have copper discoverer atp tires. They are somewhat aggressive and knobby. They also went 10k before the rotation.

10k before rotation is the issue, i have the atps as well and had them rotated at 2k 4.5k and 6k, it really helped them stay quiet and smooth. Discount tire suggested that I rotate more often on the truck tires.

Ok, thanks. When I bought my tires they told me to rotate every 8k. But I'm as lazy as a bump on a log, soooo I waited for the even 10k mark. my fault. I will now rotate every 3k guess.

Rotating at 3 for a few times might help, also have the balance checked each time.

    K. Thanks for the help. So you think these tires are salvageable? They still have quite a bit of tread left

I would say they should be, might never be really quiet again, but manageable.
