Let’s see your spare tires mounted to roof racks!! Looking for a good solution and there’s not much on here for roof mounts. RAGO doesn’t even make a bracket or do they?

I just recently bought a Prinsu and plan on doing this. My 33 inch spare doesn't fit in spare tire slot and I can't keep rocking my spare in the bed anymore as it takes up a lot of room. My plan is to rock the spare in the bed of the truck and when I go on my trips, move it onto the Prinsu.

Nice. Eyelets and straps. A great reliable flexible solution. Debating this vs a diy bolt bracket solution. I want to move a bunch of weight to the front of my truck for towing an 18’ so that the rear doesn’t sag enough to require an add a leaf or leaf pack. Already have a weight distributing hitch with sway control and it’s a dual axle trailer so it should be fine. But once you load her all up you can get some serious sag. Gonna move the spare and add a long pelican for the tools/ recovery. Keep all the trax (actiontrax) up front and keen light stuff like soft goods / food/ dog stuff and baby stuff in the bed under snug top.

I’m late to the party but I like this idea. I plan on a high clearance rear bumper at some point and I have a bed mattress for camping. So, roof rack spare is looking like my option. Did you try this? If so, how did you like the setup?

You can fit a 33” spare under the truck still, no need to go strapping it to the roof.

I had plans to install an air tank reservoir in place of the spare for air lockers/tools on the fly. Still debating all of this in my head.

im guessing you have to cut of the brackets that bend down my km3 doesn't fit without cutting them off and massaging the exhaust

Most guys in other threads hammer the brackets to make the tire fit.

I like the idea of a rear mount (hitch/bumper) but I hav a 6’ bed access cab. The additional length would be tough for parking spaces and it would block my camera. I really don’t see a roof mounted spare as a big deal. Accept in the case of a collision. Hoping that doesn’t happen. In the event that I did decide to do a bed mount…do they sell/make bedrail mounts?

Whoa, hold on a minute... What trailer is this and how much does it weigh empty/loaded? It sounds like you're overloading the truck quite a bit if you're sagging with a weight distributing hitch. My old neighbor had a setup like that on her 3rd gen Tacoma and Airstream realizing that it was too much for the truck...

    Yep.

Next to the MaxTrax like the 4runners mount there. Visibility is overrated.

    Sweet. I gotta get those.

I’m thinking of combing your idea and @JoeCOVA and mount my 38x13.50 and some traction bars on the hood.

I for one don't have the lifting strength to do it.

Id warn against any mounting that allows the rubber to rest on the rack. On a different vehicle I had the spare on the rack just strapped in place. The rubber picked up indentations from the rack, made the tire vibrate like hell when I needed to use it, and I’m 100% sure it lost a lot of its integrity. Now I have a kinda hub (with wheel studs) welded to the rack that the wheel rests on, then uses wheel bolts to hold it in place. that keeps the actual tire rubber from touching the rack. Works 100x better.

I have something similar to this, welded to the rack.

Kinda like the original spare tire that I took out from its spot.
