You don’t have to worry about the bolt heads, it will just tighten up against them.

Your fastening location should be solid not a void. That does nothing but open up the possibility for flex to occur making it much easier for the bolt to lossen up or even worse making another spot for a rattle to pop up.

Naw, not true- it just has 6-points to rest against, those t-bar bolts aren’t going anywhere. Mine has been mounted for three years now, many miles on washboard roads and it stays snug as the day I mounted it. Use nuts with nylon lock threads. If you are concerned, get a spacers. Rubber sheeting with double stick tape may help, but it’a not really needed. One thing about rubber spacers is they will help protect the powder coat on the rack, direct mounting like I did may mess it up but I keep the awning permanently mounted anyways.

Are there any cheaper solutions for a free standing awning similar to the Kammok? At their price point I'd be inclined to go with a 270 but I like the idea of a standard 6ish foot awning to keep things a bit more light weight.

New OVS Nomatic 270 LTE awning, also custom homemade brackets similar to @shaggy135. Much lighter and more affordable than most with the tradeoff of slightly less coverage but still adequate.

What did you come up with for a mount? Looks like you have the same rack too, haha.

I purchased the standard awning bracket from KB Voodoo because it has the right angle and that one was cheap, then I just bought a 3” strip of steel from Home Depot and drilled some holes and slots and painted it to match. Basically used it as an extension to gain some height.

Thats pretty slick. I also used KB's awning brackets but I felt like I needed something a little heavier duty due to the weight, so I used some 14" countertop support backets and drilled some extra holes. Probably overkill but my awning does weigh 80 lbs, ha.

Got mine mounted off the side of the prinsu this weekend. Built 3 spacers to keep it off the bolt heads drilled some lower mounting holes thing is solid. Really close to the roof I'll have to monitor for signs of rubbing from the cover. Might be worth tossing some 3m on it sooner than later.
Pro to going this way over using mounts it sits tight and at a good height. And I didn't have to adjust my roof boxes at all.

Yeah I like your thinking, the dynamic weight wont be as much of a concern with that. We were pretty intentional about weight so when we saw this 270 awning under 50lbs we decided that was the one we wanted, haha.

Planning on getting a prinsu soon. I currently have the slim shady, do you still use the clamp inserts? I needed additional inserts to mount to my Yakima bars

I sold the awning, but i just used the standard clamps on the awning and clamped them to the crossbars on the prinsu - fit perfectly

Looks awesome, I really want one but for the price I feel like I should get a 270.

I thought about it but I can't use a 270 with my ikamper 3.0 mini. It would hinder me fron getting into the tent

This seems like a great choice. Might just get it instead of a 270 anyway.
