This morning I noticed that the black rubber molding, where the roof rack would be installed, was popped up a little at the front. I tried to push it back in but it would not stay down. I was late to work so I figured I'd look at it later. 5 miles down the highway later my molding has ripped half off and I have to pull over to take it the rest of the way off.

    Has anyone seen this before?

Any tips for dealing with the dealer to get it fixed (My local dealer is crooked as hell, so the lot I bought my truck from is 1.5 hours away)

My truck has all of 1300 miles on it, 2013 double cab PreRunner :goingcrazy:

You are well within warranty, so getting it fixed shouldn't be an issue. Just FYI, the strip in only held with a plastic clip in the front and back (make sure those are there) and a little double sided tape.

Did your truck happen to ever have a roof rack mounted on it? i just ask because the install instructions say to snap the sides off of the plastic clips, which means there is nothing left to hold the mouldings in place if you ever decide to put them back on

Nope never a roof rack. I bought it before it was delivered to the lot and nothing has touched the roof except for washing it several times.

Me and my brother had the same problem. Mine is a 2006 and my brother a 2005. Moldings took off after being in a car wash.

Removes moldings and apply 3M double-sided tape and put their back in place.
    They have not moved since.

on my 2009 one of mine came loose and pounded a couple of small dents on my roof. I did not notice dents until I got on my ATV to unload it off the trailer. I took it back to dealer 3 months after they put the strip back on to fix dents. Just explained what happened and no problems. Problem with dealers is they work for Toyota first.

Warranty. But seriously, you should have a roof rack anyway. They look hella good.

After going through the automatic car wash I pulled over to wipe off my 2013 Double Cab. Good thing I did as about 3/4 of the passenger side plastic roof rack molding had been pulled out of the channel- had I gotten on the highway I would have lost it. Suggest that those of you who use automatic car washes check these strips before you take off.

Funny, if this was a ford everyone would be bashing it and saying how they are built like shit.

2016 double cab. When truck was a couple months old the moulding came loose at a car wash. Took it to dealer. They said its just pressed in, no adhesive. Inspected. Thought maybe during assembly it was not pressed in all the way. Mentioned we see this in the Tundra often not the Tacoma. Almost 1 year later it happen again. This time they stated we see it all the time. We will put some adhesive on it.
    Had to make appointment. Lol
Go in for an appt. We will have to order a new one. That what is slightly deformed. Another appt. Made. At this point it came out every trip to the carwash.
They put a new one in. Dont wash it for 24 hrs. Ok. 3 days later. Carwash. Moulding came off. NO SIGNS of adhesive.
    Just made another appt.
I could fix this with the help of 3m in probably 2 minutes. But now they made it personal when they also said. This happens in our carwash all the time. (Large dealer with there own carwash. All service work, gets a carwash free)
WE JUST PUSH THEM BACK IN.
    Sorry, not playing that game.
Up until now they have been dealing with my wife. They get me the next appt. Hopeing to hear someone say "we just push them back in" when I'm standing there in person.
Looking to have a talk about the line of 3m adhesives currently available and the applications they are designed for. This shouldnt be this difficult. Geesh.

Haha!! Just had the thing almost fly off in the freeway. They have some adhesive above the rear driver’s side door otherwise it would have flow off. It’s deformed a little, so sitting in the sun right now to see what happens. I may have the dealer order another one. Kind of annoying, but oh well

I have a 2015 Tacoma. mine came off in a car wash, could never get it to stay back on.
I ordered a non hem roof rack on eBay, about $150. Installed it myself, looks great and
I used it hauling my canoe with a hitch mount rack upright rack also.

Barely. It’s still on there, but I was hoping the sun would take care of it being warped. It didn’t today, so I was planning on calling tomorrow.

It happened to my 13 going through a car wash too. What's the best adhesive for fixing this?

My 2019 TRD Sport did this the second week I owned it. Took it to dealer and the service writer said "it happens all of the time, and there is no OEM fix for it." So I own a two week old truck that I can't take through a carwash without pieces falling off? He responded that I can go through the carwash, just not the blower... What? I asked him where I might find a carwash without a blower. He said just drive through the blower section "quickly" and hand dry it. What a complete tool. Toyota service?
