Hey guys, Im new to Tacoma World so bear with me. I have a new pelfreybilt bumper and a prinsu roof rack coming in soon with possibly a 30inch lightbar cutout. I know there are posts out there about the glare of a roof light bar, but they were old posts and wondering if anyone has come up with a solution to that other than painting my hood. Im also debating on getting a roof light bar or a bumper light bar. Hesitant on the roof light bar for the glare reasons. Im looking into Baja Design light bar. Sooo:

Roof 30inch or bumper 20inch light bar?

If roof, is there a way to fix the glare?

Simply setting the roof bar farther back on the roof will reduce the glare as it will use the roof above the windshield to get rid of some of the glare. Or atleast half it. I have seen people use brackets and i have seen people drill right into the roof rack. That or get an afro-market roof rack like prinsu or something.

40" bar on my prinsu roof rack with a 20" bar in my Pelfreybilt bumper. Hood vinyl for the glare:

People have built glare shields for roof bars, which will help the issue but also introduce wind noise and highway mpg loss. As mentioned you can set the bar farther back, you will need much farther back to eliminate the hood glare issue.

Even small amounts of hood glare will cause your vision to constrict to foreground light causing losses in distance vision. The bumper bar will have no glare issue and provide better night distance vision for your eyes. The roof bar will provide a better flood of light for near field illumination and also give more top down perspective from the light source vs the lower bumper mount light.

In short they don’t really serve the same purpose. So it helps to know what you are looking to achieve.

Whatever is easier, which would be the bumper most likely.
