My passenger side roof moulding was hanging half way off after getting a car wash yesterday. Is this pretty typical, should I even bother taking it into Toyota or should I just get some 3M double sided foam tape and be done with it?

I heard a lot of people have issue with this. I would just double side tape it and call it a day.

I was driving down the highway the other day and got behind another 3rd gen Taco. All of a sudden I see something flopping on his roof. It was getting worse and I got next to him and told him pull over. By the time we made it to the next exit, it was barely hanging on.

there is a clip at the front and rear of the moulding. usually the front clip releases it grip on it's people. :D the center section of the moulding is just press fit in and "vacuum" type seal to the roof track where the moulding sits.

start at one end, press (roll) the moulding into the track, and then connect the retainer clip. sometimes it holds some times it doesnt.

if it keeps coming out, you can put some windshield urethane sealant on the area it pops from, then tape the moulding in place for 24-36 hours. but, be forewarned... urethane is messy, gets on EVERYTHING, just like anti-seize, and once cured, it is hard like a hockey puck, and permanently bonded.

    your results may vary. Ski

I was in the car wash the other day behind a lexus rx330 (2005ish) and watched as both roof trims flew off with the blowers... you could see the people in the car turn to look at them and then just drove off.

My wifes rx330 is missing one side that flew off on the highway... I think its been a problem for toyota/lexus for along time.

I lost two, one on my IS 250 awd, and one on GS 350 f-sport awd. Those are color matched on Lexus, so not cheap date. Piss poor attachment design by Lexus/Toyota.

I went through a touchless laserwash at a gas station near me because
    1) the amount of road salt caked on since getting back from NYS was too damn high to use anything but a pressure washer, which I don’t own, and
    2) my hoses are all packed up for the winter, because they freeze and get destroyed.
also 3) It’s not a Ferrari, I don’t care too much about appearance. It gets used like a truck. So if I end up with swirl marks in the clear coat, oh well. At least I got most of the salt off, hopefully I won’t see too much rust underneath come spring

Figured that was enough. It’s amazing what happens when you use the search.

Not all of us get that luxury, its below freezing here half the year. But there are mostly touch free washes in my area.

God forbid anyone try to start new conversations on a forum and keep members active. I’ve seen forums die a slow death because of newer people being bullied into using the search constantly. Why even have a forum at that point? Why not just a massive FAQ where nobody gets to communicate? Thank you for finding those other threads, honestly I would’ve still started a new one.

This and the fact that the car wash chipped the paint on my truck is the reason why I only I hand wash my truck.
