Just wanting to rant a little. I have a roll n lock tonneau cover which I really like, in the summer. However now that it is winter every time I go wash my truck the darn thing freezes up. The worst part and also one of the reasons I bought the roll n lock, is that I can't even open my tailgate when its frozen. The concept of the roll n lock and how it latches to your tailgate is great until it freezes and you can't use your truck box. If anyone has any experience or "magic" solution please let me know. I really don't want to spend money getting a new tonneau cover however when Winter is 7 months of the year up here, no truck box for that long also sucks.

    Boeshield T9 sprayed everywhere.

it will make a grungy mess when dirt stick to it, it stays sticky.

but winter goop will not wash it away.
stuff is like a wax, used on aircraft assemblies that slide and pivot. and anywhere else you really want to keep water out and stuff lubed.

you want looks (grunge free) and no frozen junk you are gonna have issues

Hello, I am Director of Sales & Marketing for Roll N Lock Corporation. I saw your post and wanted to offer some suggestions to mitigate or eliminate the freezing problem you are having. Please don't apply any kind of sticky, waxy substance as this will only make your cover work slower and attract dirt. As the poster who suggested this mentioned, it will become a sticky mess. The best thing to use to keep the cover from icing up is a product sold by Canadian Tire called "Rust Check Spray". It comes in a red can as seen here: http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/rust-check-spray-0477907p.html#.VJRG3B0MA.

Spray this product liberally into the tracks, under the handle onto the linkages, and also into the latches (oval holes at the outboard ends of the face of the handle.) This should prevent freezing of the tracks and latches.

Another freezing problem occurs when you run through a nicely heated car wash and then right out into the subzero weather before the roll housing has a chance to drain completely (especially if the drains are somewhat clogged with debris from fall.) This can cause the water to freeze in the housing right to the roll. This will definitely keep it from opening! The only way to prevent this is to make sure your drains are clear and to try to let the housing drain before going out into the arctic air.

Finally, I know you said that one of the reasons you bought your Roll N Lock is because it locks to your tailgate, however we do offer an "NT Kit" that eliminates the mounted tailgate extrusion. The cover then locks only into the tracks on the sides. You would have to lock your tailgate separately to secure the entire unit. But, if applying Rust Check doesn't solve your problem, this will at least allow you to open your tailgate - even when the unit is frozen up. I would be very happy to send one of these kits to you at no charge if you wish. Just contact me at ekraft@rollnlock.com.

Thanks for being a Roll N Lock customer and please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you!

    ERIC KRAFT
