As others have said, if your pinned against a tree or boulder it will kick the rear end away as you complete the turn

Kickouts are extremely helpful in helping save your bed. As you slide along an obstacle, when you get to the kick out the truck is pushed further away from the obstacle before you come off your slider.

The challenge with ANY slider is to protect the truck, BUT not stick out too far to limit or hit things necessarily. Also if sliders stick out too far, it makes stepping out of your truck a PITA. Sliders that stick too far out you drag with the back of your leg, not the best for a daily driver and you're dressed for work. Worse yet your significant other gets it.

Proper slider coverage is to the outside radius of the door (looking down), then the kick-out is just about the same as the fender flair. Here is a side shot of our Metal-tech 4x4 sliders:

    MT-TACO3G-21100_01__77243.1507669575.1280.1280.jpg

It's important there are NO blunt ends going both directions on proper sliders. The other key thing for ALL sliders is we don't always drive forward past obstacles, sometimes we have to back up. The main body of the slider should have ramped ends, not just flat-capped blunt ends. The same thing for a kick out, both directions should be ramped, not just one. Takes one wheeling trip in large exposed roots or loose trees to stress the need for ramped ends. Drop onto a 3" tree branch between the rear tire and the slider, then try to back up = lock. We want every advantage we can get.

DOM vrs HERW tubing is debated quite a bit. Personally, if I am going to build it, it's going to be DOM and Every slider Metal-tech 4x4 makes is DOM. We actually use DOM-SRA, stress relieved DOM, its the next step up in DOM material. It's just the difference of building quality for quality, just like fully sandblasting, dip, bake, powder and bake for powder coating. Ya dip/bake powder sticks paint to metal, but why skip that $40 step of sandblasting for the best possible paint prep. I bought a Toyota for a reason, quality. The parts that go on it should be the same.

SOS you can order in DOM as well. I have the HREW ones from them with top plate and kickout. Ive had the whole truck on them without issue, even jacked up from there. If you are hard dropping on rocks constantly, Then DOM yeah.

You search the mod-list, but don't find anything of interest.
This seems like a good time to express interest in those predator tube steps if you're looking to get rid of them. I'm close enough I'd pick them up in person.
Lmk when you get serious about selling them @Mojo Jojo ?

It's all about the looks lol

When I fabed up my sliders I added the "kick out" and used 2.0" di tubing, 99% for looks. Surly this won't hurt the functionality of them but one must never forget aesthetics.

Kick out will save the side of your truck. If it wasn't for my sidebars with kick out, body damage would have occurred. But on the other side; "Chicks dig body damage". Zoom in on side bar.

Holy s*** dude! There is no way I am going to attempt anything like that in my still-smells-like-VOCs-in-the-cabin beast! But the point is well taken. Love that pic BTW, were you able to get out on your own?

    Noch,
Will definitely let you know. I have to hit 50 posts before I can officially list anything in the BST thread, but will PM you directly before I list it publicly. So far only about 30 miles on them! I am going out of the country Friday and returning Friday, so I might take them off next weekend. I'll contact you when that happens.

Not sure what I'm more impressed by, the equipment or the fact your wife was driving! :)

Thanks all for the great replies. Definitely a lot of researching ahead of me, but that's half the fun!
