I'm in between Rustoleum Bed-Liner and Raptor (or something else) to spray onto these 4XInnovations Rock-Sliders. Thoughts? Advice? TIA

I have had good luck with Raptor liner as compared to the Rust Oleum Stuff.

This has been discussed several times, but I have used high temp BBQ paint. Really just any decent quality rattle can paint. I just figured the high temp stuff would be slightly more durable and last a little longer in the hot sun.

Doesn't matter what you coat them with, it'll get scratched off if you hit it on rocks. Powder coat, line-x, raptor, whatever. It'll come off when you kiss rocks. Rattle cans are probably the easiest to touch up, and you can do it 100 times before you notice any change in thickness.

One hybrid model I've heard talked about is rattle can on the bottom for the stuff you'll always be touching up, and then raptor on the top for foot traffic and extra grip.

Whenever I get around to (possibly) raptor lining my whole truck, I'll probably do that since I'll have black on hand to redo my bed, too.

I cleaned mine with alcohol then sprayed a layer of self etching primer, then flat black, then bed liner for grip texture. The paint will take a beating a require retouching every couple months at a minimum so I wouldn't go with anything too expensive.

If you’re gonna use them just use some sort of spray can

if you’re not, I guess raptor will work

I'm guess you prepped and primed before the heat resistant paint like a good kid?

Yeah, wiped down with alcohol, then primed with whatever grey primer I happened to have on hand. Then slapped a few coats of BBQ paint on them. Did the same with my bumper.

Is is the most durable thing? No

Does it look like a factory paint job? Also no

Is it a decent 30 foot paint job? Probably.

IMO sandblasting first will make the coating last longer than any special formulation in a can will.

I'm gonna do that I think. I get a good deal on powder-coating a couple hours south so I'm gonna drop the sliders to be blasted with my friend, and the rear bumper will get blasted and powder-coated. That's the plan for now anyway. Thx

Nice truck and that finish looks great on them. Did you spray primer before the rustoleum bed-liner? I've noticed the cans say primer is in it, implying a one shot deal it appears. Those are bolt ons yeah? It's weld on for the 1st gen's like mine, but I was thinking about making them bolt-on. Thx

No primer, went straight to metal. The rustoleum stuff coated very well and the 2 coats i did are holding up well. Mine are weld on as well and I hit the welds with undercoating paint

I hear you, good to be able to touch up when needed. Inexpensive and easy is always a plus. I like your idea for the high-temp. paint. I've used that stuff before and it does seem to hold up well. Good idea on the hybrid top and bottom combo. I saw a tacoma on the way home today that was full truck coated w/something like that and it caught my eye. I was thinking about maybe making these sliders bolt-on, what do you think about that idea? Just weld or drill some holes in the frame? Been pondering. Thx!

I don't see any real advantage to them being bolt on.

Only reason to get bolt ons is because you don't have a welder or know someone with one.

Got it. I like that finish, looks good. I may end up doing that. Good call on the under-coating. I've used that quite a bit and it does good. For some reason I was thinking that the sliders for all but the 1st gen's were bolt-on. I'm toying w/the idea to make them bolt-on, just puts some holes in the frame.

The 4x kit i bought had holes at the 4 corners like you could make them bolt on, id just rather weld them on and not put holes in my frame like that. @JDUB-Fabrication did mine and did button welds(?) In the holes for more strength
