So I got one of my friends to run the wire for my rock lights for me and they ran it too close to the exhaust and it melted the wires. Does anyone know if I could strip them and just use speaker wire?

really depends on the insulation jacket of the wire (melting point, resistance to moisture ingress, resilience to other chemicals)
standard speaker wire usually is poor on all those points

Should be ok, low voltage, but may not be waterproof. Also are they RGB or solid white?

@JMcFly what would be the proper way to replace the wire rather than purchasing new lights?

depending on how and where the damage is I would cut out the damage, solder in new wires, heat shrink the joints with marine grade stuff since its exposed to water, and run proper gauge silicone jacketed wire if its by warm stuff.

Please, do it properly. The last thing you want is to be popping fuses, and starting electrical gremlins.

You can purchase a wire loom, and wrap the loom in e-tape, it makes it look so much more OEM and professional. It also protects the wires from debris, rain, snow, sand, rubbing, and limited temperature protection.

I know it’s overkill. You will thank yourself later when you are troubleshooting an electrical gremlin.
