How can I fix these two pretty large rock chips? Only really concerned about rust. Is it too late and will the rust eventually spread? I do have a (3rd gen MGM) paint pen

You can order touch up paint from your dealer that matches your truck. Not perfect, but will keep the spot from rusting and blends in a lot better than a bare spot of metal. I'd also recommend the clear coat touch up to provide extra protection over it.

Awesome thank you. Just that? Don't need a underlying rust primer?

If that's rust in your photo, then you should either clean it up or use a primer. When my paint got chipped, it was still showing bare metal without rust, so I just spot painted directly onto the chipped area. When I had a chipped section of my hitch start rusting, I just sanded the rust off before painting over the spot.

A fiberglass sanding pen can be used to clean the rust out from that chip. Use it until you don't see any more rust appearing and are down to bare metal. Then touch up with primer, paint, clearcoat.

I just did some of my rock chips tonight actually. Dupli-color makes good ones with an abrasive tip/brush/pen/clear coat combo now. It won’t be perfect but I’m very happy with mine. Very easy to use. Make sure you have some paper towels ready if you mess up. Wipes off good when still wet. I built some of my deeper ones up with paint. Dab it, let it dry and come back and put more over until I liked how it looked.

There’s a company called Dr. Color Chip that I’ve used for years in my detailing business. (Retired). Worked great. Easy t follow directions. Good stuff!
