Seeking advice from any of you audiophiles out there! Going to add some foam insulation to/around the new 6x9 and 6.5 door speakers. Should I go with one of the Road Kill foam ring kits ( https://amzn.to/2LbADu5 ) or the Boom Mat ( https://amzn.to/2L7QCJm )?

I did both (sorry no photo). I used the boom mat on the back of my speakers (which supplies additional protection from water & dust), and the foam fast rings on the front of my speakers.

** I had to cut the boom mats to make them fit my speaker rings fyi

I tested some of these baffles as well. My takeaway was that they're good for factory speakers with low power but 'choke' woofers that are able to move a good bit of air. In the cases that they are useful they flatten frequency response nicely and boosted midbass - or at least did in my truck.

I'd think they'd be useful as a splash guard - cutting out the back, bottom, etc, but they definitely have an impact on speaker performance if they're used in a closed configuration...bad for high power applications but likely an improvement for low power factory drivers. They act like an aperiodic membrane at lower power.

You are correct. I took the boom mat out and my speakers "came alive". The sound difference was night and day. Will never use them again!

Good to know, I have my front and rears set a high pass filter at 125Hz, everything lower goes to subwoofer.

** wish you were in the Denver Area, to fine tune my system, after looking at your thread, youve got some serious equipment!
