    Hey all,

When I was buying my truck the guy at the dealership warned against the aftermarket remote start kits. Something about cutting and splicing wires can mess up the right amount of amps going to where they need to. I'm no electrician so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this. Is he right or just trying to get me to spend more money having it installed at the dealership? I'm looking at the N2 design specifically. Thanks.

3rd gen uses canbus remote starters. As long as the splices are done well, or a quality plug and play is used there is zero risk.

The issues we see are when new models come out and theres limited instruction sets. I've seen ECU's fried and harnesses damaged.

I've installed 3 aftermarket starters in my life and one on a 3rd gen tacoma. It was far and above the easiest and least risky.

The Toyota OEM remote starter is easily the worst in the industry. They have terrible range and poor function. I've installed many of them, and seen many complaints.

N2 remote start (push button start, full take over) is super easy to install. Plug and play. Took me roughly fifteen minutes to complete. Highly recommend!

I use to take out remote starts all the time due to issues with no start, dead batteries, flashing lights,
Extra starter crank after running, etc.
The new plug and play systems are way different.
I swore I would never install one in my vehicles.
Well, I have one now and it’s been flawless.
Mine is 12 volt solutions but, the plug and play scenario is the same.
I watched and researched these for 2 years before I did mine.
Factory remote starts are finicky and doing the secret handshake pushes every time
    gets old.

I have the H key so from what I understand I would have to splice one wire if I want my fob to work while the engine is running?

I have the n2 with H key. No problems. N2 was great with customer service. Installed August 2022. I was in a cell service challenged region so instead of the app I went with the long range antenna that allowed me to start the truck from the ski lift on my last run back to the truck. Biggest challenge is remembering to set the hvac controls ahead of time!

Haha that’s a great idea. I just want something I can start my truck with from my kitchen before I go to work in the winter

When I bought my truck (used) the dealer installed a "Pursuit" remote start. Works with the truck fob and came with two Pursuit fobs. It's been flawless for 4 years so far.

did he say this before the finance guy tried to upsell you $5-6k worth of adders like an extended warranty, remote start, all weather mats, door edge guards, paint protection, interior protection, nitrogen filled tires, maintenance package?
The point is: I bet they offer the $300 remote starts for $800 too. So it's okay if they do it (sarcasm).
