    Hello

I have a 01 Tacoma. Recently installed these tail lights. Immediately had a problem where the right side running light doesn't work, but the brake light does. Turn signal and reverse work fine, and the bulb is dual filament. Left side works fine, have swapped bulbs over, and plugged OEM tail light back in, but the problem persists on the right side. The lights in the image are 6 pin as well as the OEM.

Help is much appreciated, thank you.

Did the problem persist when you plugged the OEM taillight back in?
If not, my understanding is that the 95.5-00 trucks have a slightly different wiring design than the 01-04 trucks, so is it possible the taillights you purchased were for the older trucks?

    Welcome to the forum!

Break out the meter quite possible plugging and unplugging you broke the wire or bent a pin..

The wire might be broken under the insulation.

Yes, it persisted. As far as I know pre-01 have 5 pin and 01-04 have 6, the aftermarket ones I have are 6.

I’d have to agree with what Bivouac said, if they worked before and don’t work now, it’s probably a spade connector in the wiring, and when i look up the wiring diagrams on the forums it points me towards a solid green wire being the positive for the running light circuit.

If possible, can the aftermarket passenger taillight be plugged into the driver's side plug (just to verify that all lights are working)? Plug the OEM passenger taillight into the passenger plug since you know this was working beforehand. If the OEM passenger taillight works, unplug and plug the aftermarket driver's taillight into the passenger side plug (if it will plug in) to see if all lights are still working. This should give you an idea if the aftermarket passenger taillight is working or some possibly aftermarket cross-wiring.

I think this guy's video (at 2 minutes) is talking about the same thing you are if I'm not mistaken, I will see if this is the problem.

    Yup, no problems before

That is a good idea, will try today or tomorrow, thank you

Maybe the aftermarket tail light's 6th pin isn't connected/pigtailed to the proper terminal?

Each time the problem persisted on the passenger running tail light. I'm thinking it is the wiring harness itself, and that I'll have to cut open the insulation and cut wire to check, but unsure.

I had a similar problem, bought new (Amazon) tail lights. I thought I was just buying the lenses but it was the entire tail light assembly . Did the right one first, everything worked, then installed the left one. That's when the right side tail lamp and right side license plate light went out. I thought I shorted something but all fuses were fine, wires looked intact. Both old and new lights had 6 pin connectors so it kept me wondering. Decided to just use the lenses and put them on the old bases and everything worked. The wiring on the new lights looked like an exact copy of the originals too! Lesson learned! Everything is back on and working fine. If you get aftermarket lights, consider using the factory bases. Even my old 2001 bases were better built than the aftermarket ones.

Literally going through the EXACT same thing on my son's 04 Tacoma, driving me CRAZY lol. He replaced drivers side lens but just like yours, came with new assembly so he just ran the new stuff. Now the pass. side running light and pass. side license plate wont work but brakes and turns work fine. I've spent 2 hours chasing wires , fuses, swapping bulbs etc . Thought he threw away old housing but still in my shop, mannnn I hope this fixes his truck!

It did instantly for mine, I'm sure it will for yours too. Worst case scenario is you'll have to make a jumper for your reverse lights so that the left communicates with the right side. Hopefully you'll find the old bases. The Video shown about 6 posts above this shows you how to do it.

A few years back, I ran across a bad cable where a pin had pushed back into the base and wasn’t making contact.
