On the rhino tracks, what's to stop you from match drilling the holes to the OEM threaded holes and mounting there?

    Maybe @Indeepcamo can answer.

Their pics on the first page are on a access cab which has no predone holes for a roof rack.

If you have a double cab then it would have been nice if they made their rails line up with stock prethreaded holes but from another members pics on page 1 it doesn't even look like the rails extend all the way to the front mounting holes near the windshield. Maybe the rear ones line up?

Just like half the people who replied in this thread, I'm not comfortable drilling unnecessary holes in my roof when countless other options out there won't require drilling holes.

@Indeepcamo - Running into some conflicting information on fitment for the 05-15 Double Cabs. The Rhino Rack website fits the truck with JA8414, but while doing searches for that part number, vendors show it fits 16+ Double Cabs. Same product for both gens?

I'm not sure i understand what i am reading here. This track system would be great if it mounted the same as the factory roof rack via provided locations, but OP is stating that the new Tacoma's do not have those factory mounting points? I'm certain Toyota still offers roof racks and they fit 2005 to current.

I think he was referring to access cabs and is confusing the issue. The first post was a rack on an access cab. Which I'm wondering, did they just slap one on an access cab then decide to use the same exact design for the double cab without even making something specific for double cabs. Cause your right, all double cab have factory threaded holes.

    Hello there,

Certified Rhino-Rack Technician here. Came across this thread and thought we'd update you guys on a few things about these custom tracks and clarify some details debated in this thread as well. We hope it helps you.

    1) Since the OP's post we've launched fully customized Tacoma Tracks for the 2005-2017 Double Cab. The part # is RTS547 if you'd like to look it up on our website & check out the install instructions on the product page (just click "Documents" inside the product landing page). The OP was retrofitting our Hilux track to work on his cab - a nice custom install for sure (must be a pretty handy fella) but proud to say that's no longer necessary. The new tracks use the existing factory holes on the Tacoma, plus rivets also. Why? Point 2...
    2) Frankly we're in the business of strength, and just using the bolts + factory mounting holes does not provide the strength & dexterity in a track setup for heavy offroad usage to meet our strict standards. Rivets prevent tracks raising/bending up between the factory mounting points where there's a good-size gap, under stress. Like you guys, our customers are hitting some of the most aggressive trails in the harshest places on the planet, sometimes in military capacities, and this is a system that will get them there. Just ask the guys at Bold Overland: http://www.boldoverland.com/
    - As we do with all our custom tracks (yes, these are totally custom for the Tacoma "ditches" as are our Tundra, 4Runner, Landcruiser tracks among others) we beef it up by requiring drilling & riveting, and we provide those rivets with the tracks. They are aluminum, marine-grade, self-sealing, and when used with the also-provided butyl mastic sealant patches (as OP said, "when installed properly") the fit is 100% waterproof, absolutely no-chance of leakage, rust-proof (even the tracks are structural grade aluminum) and backed by our Lifetime Warranty & Guarantee (also on our website) which is even valid off-road - a tidbit some other companies neglect to mention until it's too late.
    - Yep, the tracks require a high-level of technical expertise to install, so we typically recommend using one of our Authorized Dealers to help with that, and as OP said those nice folks often guarantee their work too.
    3) We don't make a dedicated set for the Access Cab, but the good news is the "ditches" have the same profile, so folks needing that just cut-down the Double-Cab tracks to the desired size & install those. Again, a custom fit for sure, so we recommend talking to an Authorized Dealer if that interests you. And yep, this would require drilling too.
    4) For an even-beefier setup, we recently launched our Rhino-Rack Backbone for Toyota Tacoma Double Cab, here's a very informative video on it by one of our most experienced Dealers Rack Outfitters in Austin Texas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLFXHndqVII
    - This is a no-drill application, so only uses the factory mounting points, and with this type of structure & design we still achieve that incredible strength/durability we strive for. 705lb static load-rating so roof-top-tent ready! Lifetime Warranty too, like all our base-racks. Double Cab only for now.

There's definitely no shortage of awesome options for these great trucks, and we hope this helps you make an informed decision for what's best for you. Always feel free to reach our CS & Tech Reps anytime 8-5 MST, at 303-706-9700. See you on the trails!!

Hey there! To answer your question, absolutely not! These custom tracks are still some of our best-sellers in this category. They're visible right on our website for any Toyota Tacoma Double Cab from 2005 onward. Just look for the term "trackmount" in the listing, for example:

    http://www.rhinorack.com/en-us/fit-...acoma-4dr-pick-up-double-cab-3rd-gen-16-to-18

If you have an Access Cab, see bullet-point 3) in our post above.

If you have any further questions feel free to give our friendly Rhino Team a call! They're available M-F from 8:00AM to 4:30PM MST. 303-706-9700.

    Have a great day!!

I have a 2017 DCSB Off Road. When I am on the site I see all the platforms and crossbars with towers, but not the actual tracks that sit in the roof rack mounts? I'll follow up with a phone call soon! Looking for the tracks pictured below on the cab

Can this unique backbone be combined with any other roof rack options such as crossbars?

    Greetings Sorgon82, go Ti-Cats!

To answer your question, no sir. The Rhino-Rack Backbone is designed specifically for use with our hardcore Pioneer Platform line only. They're extraordinarily versatile, make sure to check out all our options on our Canadian website: http://www.rhinorack.ca/en-ca/fit-m...acoma-4dr-pick-up-double-cab-3rd-gen-16-to-18

And their extensive range of accessories: http://www.rhinorack.ca/en-ca/products/roof/roof-trays/pioneer-platform-acc

To be clear, the section you've quoted above refers to our custom tracks for Toyota Tacomas, which are a completely different system than the Rhino-Rack Backbone. The tracks can be used with either crossbars or Pioneer Platforms. The Rhino-Rack backbone is only for Pioneers.

There's pictures in previous posts of the custom tracks, and a nice video from Rack Outfitters on the Rhino-Rack Backbone a few posts back too.

Rock on. And best of luck if Johnny Manziel heads your way.

Awesome post. I have been wanting one of these track style racks for a long time now.

This business is very close to where I live and in fact right next to the shipping center I pick up my truck armor from.

Are you in Austin by chance?

You're looking for "track mount." The "ditch mount" listings on our website also use the Tacoma's "ditches" (same place where the custom tracks mount), but are a fixed-mount bracket and NOT a track. Here's a link to the fixed-mount bracket. It's what we at Rhino-Rack called a Quick-Mount Fit Kit, or QMFK Bracket for short:

    http://www.rhinorack.com/en-us/products/roof/roof-racks/vortex/quick-mount-ditch-bracket_qmfk08

As you can see, the QMFK Brackets utilize the same channel beneath the weather-strips on the Tacoma's roof as the tracks do, so we get the same load ratings as a track-mount system. However - big difference here - the QMFK ditch-mounts do not provide the adjustability a track-mount will, since it's a static location. Make sense?

With tracks you can put your bars/legs/Pioneer system anywhere in the track you'd like. With the QMFK brackets, you're installing static points on your roof where you'll put your racks.

I hope that all made sense. If you have any questions though (I wouldn't blame you), call our friendly Rhino Team: 303-706-9700, available M-F 8AM - 5PM MST.

    See you on the trails!

No time like the present to get a hardcore roof-rack for a Taco build! If you're in Austin we strongly recommend you swing by and see our friends at Rack Outfitters. The manager there is named Robert and we have worked with him & the RO team for years. They are some of the best in the country at rack stuff and could probably go toe-to-toe with me on rack knowledge...but don't tell'em I said that!

    https://www.rackoutfitters.com/

Rhino-Rack USA is based in Aurora, Colorado, right outside of Denver. You're in good hands with Rack Outfitters though, believe me.

    See you on the trails!
