Revier 3rd Gen 4Runner Mirror on First Gen Tacoma

What's up fellas, this going to be my first ever post on the forum, so woot woot for being a newbie! Anyways, I just wanted to share what is essentially a unicorn find for these first gen Tacomas. So I met up with @formidable_4runner on Instagram, because he had some 3rd gen 4Runner mirrors that appeared to be exactly like the mirrors on my 2000 Tacoma. The mirrors are, or should I say were, made by Revier, from over in Japan. You can't get these mirrors anymore, so I went ahead and decided to meet up and check these out. Sure enough, they looked like they were going to be a fit, so after having made the exchange, and talking Toyotas for a while, I made my way home. Skip to today, and my feeling was correct, these are going to be a perfect fit. Minus of course the slight hiccup with the screws in the my video. Any how, I just wanted to share this on here, so that hopefully some of you can pick up a rare part for your Toyota as well. Mind you, you need to have this style of mirror for the Revier's to work. So, just to be clear, these mirrors were "aftermarket-only available in Japan", or they were OEM in Japan? How did your friend happen to come onto them if they are only in Japan, and more importantly, how do I get some????

 

They had a certain amount of stock left, and he purchased the rest of them, and they were an aftermarket option, and they are made really nice. If you want to get a pair you get ahold of him on Instagram! @formidable_4runner

 

So these attach to the base of a Tacoma power style mirror?

 

You have to take apart the factory mirror that is on your truck, relatively simple minus the three screw that all broke on mine, and transfer the guts to the new housing. I have manual mirrors but both will work

Yes these are the same ones. I didn't realize Revier stopped making them, you used to be able to get them on the global rakuten marketplace. These housings just replace the outside of the mirror, you have to transfer all the internals over and use your existing mirror mount. You can just get 4runner mirrors and install them on a tacoma (you have to grind off and aligning pin on the mount). 99-02 4Runner mirrors are heated btw.

I was then able to finally source some power folding mirrors from a Japanese Hilux Surf. I then took the internals from those and the heated mirror glass from the US 4Runner and made power folding heated mirrors with turn signals and puddle lights.

Ordered a set today!

I don't need retractable mirrors, but I would like the "heat" option. I will end up simply transferring my 01' taco power mirrors into these housings. Can't decide if I want these painted to match my MICA GREEN Taco, or simply matte black like the OEM type that is presently on my truck.

 

Did you have the chrome bezel around the DRL/Blinker on the mirror painted black, as well as having the lens of the light tinted as well? I will be having mine paint matched and am tossing up the idea of maybe doing that

 

I just sprayed them with tint when I had it apart.

 

I have an 01' Taco, and it seems the dome-light circuit would serve the same purpose as "courtesy lights", coming on when you open the door(s).

 

This has my interest id love lighted heated power mirrors..we do a bit of cold travel and they ice up...this is a good thread
