I’m installing and aftermarket Boss audio unit with back up camera (2004 Tacoma). Which wire is the reverse light under my kick panel? I need to hook up a purple wire from the unit with the reverse lights, so the camera will come up when I put the reverse. Photo or diagram will be appreciated..

BN7 connector under the driver seat pin 22. It's a Red-Black wire. You should be able to follow it forward to the kick panel but I'm not sure if it's actually in a connector there.

I would like to know which is the cable behind the kick panel; is hard to follow it from under the seat to the kick panel.

Well you just need to find the R-B wire that goes toward the back of the vehicle.

I used a different wire coming out of the integration module to activate my reverse camera trigger.

It’s behind the lock panel, directly under the plugs for the power doors.

    Don’t recall the color however.

I have attached the back up light wiring diagram for a 2003 tacoma, it should be very similar to a 2004.

As far as I can tell the back up light circuit does not go through the integration relay. Also, the wire is the same color on my 99, so I doubt anything has changed over the years. Prior to 01 the connector under the driver seat is referred to BN1 and has a few different wires running though it.

I just ran it from the rear taillight and loomed it together with the bckup camera wiring. Had a wireless unit before, but I'd get feeds from baby monitors and CC security cam footage. Probably because they had a better signal?

I did this about two years ago, but I do recall it going through the integration module. In my picture I spliced to the reverse light power wire that turns on in Reverse. You’re right about it going under the seat, but I spliced the line behind the kick panel.

See: Solid Yellow Wire with Yellow Splice and two row terminal block, don’t recall original OEM wire color, but it’s red. Lower left hand corner.

Random aside: I used to work in a theatre and it had obscure 1980’s era Shure wireless microphone transmitters that were disconnected in the early 2000’s. One day our replacement microphone transmitter system went down, so we re-connected the Shure system. It didn’t work either for some reason and that’s the last we heard of it until much later.

About a year later I was talking to the Master Electrician. Apparently the frequencies the old Shure unit put out were re-assigned from voice transmission to government entity use some time in the mid-2000’s. For apparently, Missile guidance systems.

Don’t know if it’s true but it’s an interesting story nonetheless.

I am in the process of doing the same thing. That red wire is the reverse trigger wire?

Yes, but it may be different for your year. The wire colors varied year to year, model to model.

Do you know any way I can find which is the correct wire? There are SO many coming from under the seat and up to all those harnesses/connections

You’d need a factory service manual. I have the paper one for my 1998 but it’ll be different from a 2002.

You were right, it was the only red and black wire in the bundle of wires that runs under the seat

Guys the Reverse wire according to the diagram is BLACK WITH A RED STRIPE, (according to the diagram listed below) not the other way around. I've been looking for this for a few days now for my 2000Tundra. I tapped the Red with Black stripe, and it DOES NOT WORK.
It's the wiring harness going under the driver's seat, but it's the BLACK WITH RED STRIPE. a number of forums are saying it is the other way around, but that is not the case at least for a 99-04,(as best I can guess the year spread).
