For my 2018 Tacoma 6 speed manual.
Does anybody know of a replacement shifter with reverse lockout.
    Reverse is beside 1st gear.
I often engage reverse when looking for 1st.
Luckily I can check the backup camera before releasing the clutch.
I am getting better, but would still like reverse lockout because others sometimes drive the truck.

Not sure there is such a thing for a Tacoma transmission, I haven't driven a 3rd gen but on my 2nd gen 14 full left where reverse is has a very heavy detent so there's no confusing the reverse detent from the 1-2 detent.

I believe you do have reverse lock out in the RA 161 transmission , however , it only functions after you are in first gear and upshifting to second .
When you are starting from a stop , the transmission doesnt know if you are going to be shifting into 1st or reverse , therefore , reverse is selectable at that time .
To verify , try selecting reverse after you are in second gear with your clutch pedal pushed down . Reverse should then be locked out

Because it's an open thread on a public forum?

Easy solution is to simply replace the detent spring with a heavier one.

Says the guy who can’t tell the difference between 1st and reverse. I’ll assume you just got the truck because if you haven’t figured it out in 3yrs it may be time for an automatic. I don’t think anyone makes a true lockout for the Tacoma.
