My wife's new 22 4Runner has heated windshield wipers. Anyone look into if this could be retrofitted to a 16 tacoma?

Wow man, they'll heat any ol-dang thing these days.
I'm still getting used to the concept of a heated steering wheel and a heated bidet.

I don't know, but good luck.

I'd like to find a solution to this as well, I was disappointed to see these didn't come with them at any trim level. Maybe I am crazy but the wipers seem to ice up quickly on the highway, or maybe it was just the conditions today.

Yeah, I thought it was stupid, too. Then we got pelted with a freezing rain/snow mix and that stupid button actually kept the wipers ice free and able to clear the windshield. Drove a while normal and had icy crsp on the blades smearing the windshield. My son mentioned he read that it had a heater, so he grabbed the manual and found how to engage it. Truly shocked that it worked!

Not unless you find a way to fit the 4Runner windshield glass on a Tacoma.

Yep. We're in the same area. I'm by GR and this crap was nasty today. Freezing rain/snow/slush/hail all at once.

So then it doesn’t actually have heated wipers it has either a heated windshield (my dad’s rover has that) or something at the bottom of the windshield heats them while they are parked?

Well the wipers get heated by contact to glass...

I just found a writeup. It's pretty much the same as the heated rear defroster, but more tightly looped and only the bottom 2 inches of the winshield.

Ya know, back in the day we managed just fine with a defroster. What the fuck happened? Heated seats, heated steering wheel, heated mirrors, heated wipers....
I had a 1984 new 4Runner that I drove through many bad snowy winters with a defroster. Has society become that weak? Real question.

New technology doesnt make people weak. It improves peoples quality of life. If I dont have to scrape ice off the wiper blades at each stop light then thats fantastic.
I grew up without AC in the car, manual crank windows, and no airbags, but I really like the new tech in cars.

Now it does make people not know what to do in the event of not having that tech. Someone who only knew a car that melted the snow off itself is going to be lost if it breaks.

Yep. My kids know how to reach out the window at a stoplight and time grabbing the wiper ti snap it clean. And they also like defrosters that work, and heated wipers are another nice toy.

Back in my day ... you mined slate and calcite to make your own chalkboard and chalk ..... technology improves life, old people hate change - two constants for millennia.

All my heated glass did was crack my windshield if there was even the smallest chip in it.

Don't use it too often or you'll crack the 4Runner's windshield (yes it's a thing on the 4Runner forums). You may also want to inquire about windshield replacement costs now that the 4Runner has the precollision camera.

I just fold up the wiper arms if snow or freezing rain is expected.
