    Hi,
I have looked through the forums and saw a few posts about the RetraxOne and RetraxPro

I wanted to get some more updated opinions on how the RetraxOne has held up after owning it for longer.

I am debating whether I should go with the One vs Pro. I won't be stacking anything ontop but if the One's plastic material is known to deteriorate in just a year and make it hard to open and close the cover then I'll dish out a little extra for the Pro. But if that's not an issue saving money in that department would be nice.

    MAIN CONCERNS:
    - Must fit with the voodoo tonneau bracket
    - Minimum leaks
    - Lockable

Open to other suggestions for retractable covers but so far this is my top choice due to price and it fits well with the voodoo tonneau bracket.

I have a roll-up cover right now and it's good but doesn't work well with bed rails. It also flaps like mad making a lot of road noise.

I was very close to getting one of the Retrax versions, but instead bought a Peragon bed cover.
    -very well engineered
-when closed the full capacity of the bed is available
    -cheaper

Pulled the trigger. Love the retrax. Works very well with the voodoo bed rack and tonneau bracket

How's this setup worked for you? I was looking at something very similar. I've heard the retrax might not be the best if you do a lot of off roading, but it does seem like it's built well. I'd be worried about losing out on too much space with the shortbed.

my bad for late reply. I’ve been traveling

I love the set up. I’ve taken it wheeling twice and no problems and No dust got in although when I run it through a car wash a little bit of water gets in on a few corners but nothing too serious. I did add Some gasket adhesive in the tailgate area and that helped a lot.

Only pic I have in my phone. I can take more up close shots tomorrow if you’d like. Was able to fit a road shower in between the tonneau and tent as well.

Hey man, sorry to revive a dead thread but have you had any issues with the cover over the last couple years from wheeling it?

    Hey!

I got rid of this set up a year ago.

But never had any issues with it except maybe a bit of dust/water getting in at the cab area. Its not as watertight back there but nothing some putty tape cant fix.

Great to know and appreciate you getting back to me! Any issues that made you get rid of it or just going a different direction?

Currently have a Retrax MX and tbh not too impressed. The plastic seems very flimsy, and could probs be broken with a hammer or rock. The canister is pretty massive, especially with the Tacoma's small bed. And when it rains and freezes, even a little liquid will freeze it shut. Looking at getting a diamondback eventually. The diamondback SD is very similarly priced.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve got a 6ft bed so can afford to lose some bed space. Not stoked to hear about the freezing though since I live in a bit of elevation that gets snow, but will have to see how it does. I like diamondback covers but can’t shuttle bikes easily with them so went with retrax.

I’ve had the Retrax One for about 2 years and it’s held up great.

I live in Missouri so freezing hasn’t been a major issue for me personally. My cover stays rolled out 99% of the time so freezing inside the canister hasn’t happened to me.

The locking mechanism has frozen on me once but I keep a bit of lubricating fluid and lock de-icer in the truck. Overall I’ve been super happy with the Retrax One and I got it for a great price at the time.

I went for the Retrax Pro XR:
    • Lifetime warranty for Retrax Pro vs pro-rated after 1 year for Retrax One says a lot about expected durability of aluminum vs polycarbonate
    • XR is compatible with multiple racking options
If you view a Retrax as a 3-5 year sort of accessory, then One is probably right. If you see it as your long term solution, the 30% premium for Pro seems the better option.

The loss of bed space from the cannister on the SB is a legit concern. It is not ideal.

On the other hand, with XR I have an enclosed, secure bed space and can 'build up' to various storage/hauling configurations. The Retrax keeps the bed accessible with the racks on & loaded, unlike Bakflip-style hard covers where I think you would have to remove racking to open it fully.

Throwing my 2 cents in. I have a retrax one XR. In hindsight I probably would have ordered the pro if I could redo. It’s nice what I have but it doesn’t hold much weight on the middle of the slats. I was up there messing around with my tent and you cannot put your foot down. The pro would be able to handle more weight. Not a dealbreaker though, love the system. The canister is a little large though, if it weren’t so tall, that would be so much better. All in all love it though.

Where is everyone installing their drain tubes into - side of bed, floor of bed, front of bed (against cab)?

I’ve notched out my OEM bed mat and the tubes sit inside the notch on each side. Allows everything to drain just fine out of the stock holes in the bed. After a few years however I could probably use a new pair of drain tubes, mine look pretty gross.

Mine just runs right under the bed mat, between the grooves in the bed. Drains straight to the tail.

Cool thanks - sounds like I’ll just run mine straight down too.

Any bed racks or systems going over the retrax you guys love?

List of racks that can install on the retrax tracks I’ve found:
    • UpTop Truss
    • Yakima Outpost/Overhaul (keep seeing reviews about how their tonneau kit destroys the Retrax tracks though)
    • Cali Raised
    • Rhino/Yakima/Thule load bars
    • I think you can run any rack with universal tonneau adapters too
I picked up this Rhino Rack bar and basket combo for cheap used while I decide if I need anything more:
