Does anybody have one of these?
    Peragon Tonneau Cover

I'm researching different covers. It seems like retractable is the type for me.
This one is lockable and also completely removable which would seem handy
What is your experience with retractable tonneau covers?

Someone on Craigslist was selling a fairly new one for $100. I still kick myself for not snagging it.

I had a cover but when it got cold it couldn’t stretch without a lot of pulling. I went for a trifold. It locks, not easily cut open so safe. It only takes 5 minutes to remove or reinstall. I looked at the one you were thinking about, it seems a little expensive as I think mine was more than half that

    @Greg-tacoma :
Oh I didn't think of the cold factor. Which brand of trifold did you get? (If that is not inappropriate to ask)

Buy once, cry once. Retrax is where it's at. If you are looking at that expensive of tonneau covers, look around. You can find a Retrax for a couple hundred more.

I have a Retrax XR Pro on my tow rig and I will never purchase anything else.

I had a retrax with the t slot for mounting a rack later on when I had my 2019 ranger. Traded the ranger in for a taco because it was absolute junk lol. But the retrax was pretty solid for the 6 months or so I had it. The one I had was polycarbonate could take ~200 lbs on the cover and they sell a stronger one too. Was planning on adding an uptop rack on top of it later since they make a retrax compatible mount. Personally decided having an open bed works better for me so I won’t be getting one for the taco. But it never failed me, even when covered in 1/2” of ice it still opened right away once I cracked the ice some. Took it on some dusty roads almost every day too and didn’t seem to bother it much.

I have the Peragon tonneau and it works very well. It was a little tedious installing it but not terrible. I have had a few people ask me about it when they spot it in a parking lot. I would recommend it to anyone as long as you do not need to stand on it or carry weight on top of it. It is not really designed for that. The lock is quite sturdy and easy to use. Hope that helps! Good luck with which ever cover you choose!

If you look closely, my Paragon frame is on the wall just waiting for some fool to buy it.

The rollers like to break off, especially on the last panel by the tailgate. Paragon even has a handy dandy fix they will send you since it happens so frequently. Pretty easy, drill out the rivets and install new bracket and roller. Spray a little gloss black paint on it...good to go. Hopefully this doesn't happen to you on a trip or anything, because it sucks and you just lost the functionality of your tonneau cover.

In the event one likes to actually use the bed, if it's taller than 14", you have to remove it first because the top will not fold down. Another great feature of the Paragon.

Tie everything down, because if it slides forward, you get the pleasure of living one's youth and Army crawling in the bed and pulling whatever out and then crawl out backwards. Lord forbid you have a greasy gooseneck ball in the center.

Speaking of that, this probably isn't a Tacoma problem, but when using your bed, with the Paragon it probably is a good idea to remove the cover since they clank together. With the Retrax, this isn't an issue.

I remember seeing the guy on the Youtube channel "Den of Tools" having that problem with the rear section roller on his Peragon tonneau and he posted a video of the process of making the repair with the factory fix for it. I have experienced no such problem so far (knock on wood) and hope I don't.

I think the problems mentioned have a lot to do with how you use it. Latching large items down when transporting them would certainly help the situation. Adjusting the frame properly when installing it may have something to do with it as well.

    Thanks for the heads up!

I bought a TruXedo TruXport for $350 on Amazon. It rolls up nice for hauling dirt bikes, garbage cans, Lumber, whatever else and it latches/locks. So far, so good…

I used mine daily, and just watched them slowly bend. Guess I could have removed the top every time before using the gooseneck, but that totally negates even having the cover.

I'm sure for most users the Paragon will work fine. I just needed something stronger and a little bit more secure.

I spent a lot of time looking at retractable tonneau covers before going for a hardcover trifold. I saw too many bad experiences from Peragon owners. Of the retractable covers, Retrax and Pace Edwards were the two that looked the best, especially with the t slot rail option. If I ever decide to change covers, it would definitely be one of those two. You do lose some bed space due to the cannister, however.

I have a RetraxONE MX for about a year now. I like it and I don't like.
    1. You lose about a foot of bed space due to the canister so an already small 5ft turns into 4ft-ish. Not a big deal for me since my bed is empty 99.5% of the time and there is only been once where I wish I had that entire 5ft space.
    2. I don't like the way they implemented the latch as it only latches on one side. So after closing the cover and driving around for a while the cover will get slanted due to the uneven roads/bumps and the side without the latch will open slightly causing that spot to leak. You can even push it and it will open even more to where you can see whats inside the bed. I wish they implemented it where when you close the latch it locks both sides like how those hard folding covers do it.

Huge fan of my Access roll up tonneau. Rolls all the way up to the back of the cab and when installed right, keeps water out of just about all rains.

Uptop mid height paired with the Retrax XR retractable cover. No leaks whatsoever but i think the RTT helps.

Are there tonneau covers of any type that use the existing rails on the inside of the bed?
