Hello! Just bought my first Tacoma (2021 TRD Sport). It came with the Toyota Tri-Fold cover and it's pretty nice, but I would prefer to have a retractable cover. I know I will lose a little volume in the bed.

I am installing the OEM electronic tailgate lock when it shows up so I am hoping to find one of these retractable covers that has an internal opening mechanism (so that the bed is entirely locked when I lock the doors, without any extra steps).

I have looked at a ton of models and not coming up with many options by the brands that seem to be most popular. I found these couple between $1,000 to $1,300:
    1. Rough Country (https://www.roughcountry.com/product/retractable-bed-cover-46416501)
    2. Truck2Go (https://truck2go.co/collections/tac...er-with-lock-v3-recoil?variant=41129647407253)
    3. Pace Edwards Switchblade Tonneau Cover (https://realtruck.com/p/pace-edwards-switchblade-tonneau-cover/v/toyota/tacoma/)
    4. Patriot Stealth LT Tonneau Cover (https://realtruck.com/p/patriot-stealth-lt-tonneau-cover/v/toyota/tacoma/)
    5. "LEER" (appears to not actually be LEER lol) (https://www.amazon.com/LEER-ROLLITUP-Retractable-Tonneau-R2TA10A38/dp/B0BP97TYVG?ie=UTF8&th=1)

Couple more options similar to the above but with rail attachments, between $1,600 to $2,000:
    1. Pace Edwards UltraGroove Tonneau Cover (https://realtruck.com/p/pace-edwards-ultragroove-tonneau-cover/v/toyota/tacoma/2021/)
    2. Mountain Top Evo Retractable Tonneau Cover (https://www.extremeterrain.com/moun...neau-cover-evomto14fb01.html#customer_q_and_a)

Other than that my options would be automatic/electronic retractable ones, which are overkill for me and insanely expensive.

Does anyone have any insight on any of these, or have any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

I hate to say you get what you pay for, but it’s true. The cheaper ones have crap seals and leak….a lot.

I decided against the retractible due to the high cost and the leakage.

Appreciate the insight, I'm kind of stuck on what to do. The convenience of the retractable with internal latch would be super nice, especially since I installed the electronic tailgate lock. I particularly like the retractable one with the rails on it to potentially add an overland rack in the future for camping.

I like the retractable cover with two exceptions: one is in the winter if snow or ice accumulate they can be a headache to open and two they tend to take up bed space. My former employer put them on our trucks and while they secured things in the bed they could be a pain at times when you had to use them daily. Oh I guess there is a third, if you need to take them off it’s another problem.
I went with a cheap trifold from Amazon and with a remote tailgate lock I’m pretty satisfied. It’s just about how you would use it I guess.

All good points. Fortunately mine came with the Toyota tri-fold on it when I purchased it, gives me time to hem haw around about it lol. Just wish all the well known "high quality" ones didn't come with the external latch/lock!
