Pretty much brand new tires, always seem to find the nails in the road ... wtf

Before going to the tire shop anyone think that this is something that could even be patched? Seems pretty close to the side wall, but idk

Seems like it could be patched, but I guarantee most tires places won’t even touch it due to liability reasons if something does wrong in the future with the patch close to the sidewall

Looks too close to the side wall. I would run with it until you see it start leaking. I dont think a plug would work there.

You will be fine with a plug there, take it to discount or where ever you got em from and all will be well. Now if it nailed the side wall (pun intended) they might be cautious but that's what warranties are for to get a new one

    Alright, ty for the input!

That's what I was thinking too, prob will have a shop look at it tho

I'll call the warranty people in the morning, good point!

E/ Maybe I'll patch this tire and leave it as my spare since my spare is 265/70/16 instead of 265/75/16

Replace that tire, not worth the risk. Do you transport family members? Replace it and be totally safe !

I would 100% plug that. Not even think twice. Rubber cement on plug and a razor to slice the excess. You’ll forget it was ever there.

Thanks for the advice, you make a good point!

Thank you for the input, I keep forgetting that I can just patch the tire myself, just bought a kit for it too. My fear is that it's semi close to the wall.

I just had a puncture in a similar spot, but mine went directly sideways into the tread and didn't actually puncture the tire. Americas tire said they would not patch it because the patch would just fall off being that close to the sidewall

If the screw is super short you might get lucky

A reputable tire store won't touch that. The tire is trashed. You could plug it, and I've done so just long enough to get home. I keep plugs and a compressor in all my vehicles and haven't had to run a spare in years. But I wouldn't run that tire with my family in the vehicle.

FWIW....Right after I bought a set of brand new km2s I ran over a huge ass screw in the same area and it took 3 plugs to fill the hole. Ran it until they went bald and didn’t have a problem.

You were lucky !! lol. Once had a 6 inch spike go through a tire at the tread meets the side wall. Never actually punctured the tire. Had someone who came in with a Prius, a dinner fork punctured the tire. That’s what happens when you come to the fork in the road !! lol

You’ve probably already discovered this but... Almost any big tire shop will tell you that’s not repairable. If you can’t warranty it, I personally would throw a plug in it. You may also be able to find a shop that will patch it if you seek out the sketchy tire shops in the shit part of your locality.

    Edit: Glad it worked out!

With a decent quality plug done right and rubber cement I would plug just about anywhere and any size. Did 4 plugs folded in half once to fill about a 3/4” hole. (Large hitch pin somehow) and it never leaked air or gave me a problem. I’m sure others may have bad stories but I’ve had probably 15-20 plugged tire successes between me my wife and mother/sister in laws and zero failures. Many on the shoulder. Never a true side wall puncture fortunately.
