Sorry to ask the same questions over. But I have a 2014 Tacoma and I am trying to reset the maintenance light. I have tried many times to hold the trip button and turn the key on. Doesn't seem that hard, but it's not working for me. Is that still the way to do it?

    Thanks

Lol. Ok here is the way to reset the 2014 Tacoma TRD. Thanks to you guys for your help but your version doesn't work on this vehicle.

With truck running switch to TRIP A.
    Turn key back to LOCK.
Push and hold ODO/TRIP button, turn key on.
    Watch the ----- countdown.

    Thanks again guys.

WOW! Thanks so much to Kwcapach for this info. I practically injured my finger holding down the reset button on our 2011 Tacoma with the odometer reading displayed. The Toyota User Manual said to do the same thing all the youtubers and other internet entries said to do. Which is to display the odometer reading and hold the reset switch in while moving the key to the on position. It did not work!!!!

So after reading what Kwcapach wrote about resetting his 2014 TRD, I figured I had nothing to lose, and it worked - first time. It's a beautiful thing.

Just have to say this did not work on my 2011 Tacoma. What did work was displaying Trip A before performing the same procedure. Don't know why, just know I was totally frustrated attempting the reset with the odometer reading displayed time after time after time. Maybe this additional info will help some other frustrated owner.

I just had to reset mine after my local dealer, in a rare screw-up forgot to reset my maintenance required light on my 2006 after an oil change today.
This seems to have worked fine.
TW to the rescue again! Thanks, guys!

    Proper instructions:

With key in off. Press trip knob and get to TRIP A. now press and hold the knob in and turn ignition to ON. you'll see the count down to zero.

It seems all the instructions online are wrong. Sigh.

No different models just use different methods because engineers love making shit more complicated then it needs to be. Some have to be on the total mileage odometer and some have to be on trip a but the other then that the it’s the same method. Most Toyota’s are like that. Some you have to go into settings on the display and reset from there most the newer fords are that way but they use oil life percentage instead of the maintenance light. Honda you have to hold the button down forever GM it’s 5 presses on the gas pedal or hold down gas and brake together for 5 seconds. Don’t really know why some Toyota’s use trip a and some don’t.

    2011 Red Tacoma 4WD manual

Ok you're my hero today. I have been resetting my 11 for 9 years (ever since Toyota care ran out so we do our own maintenance.) But for some reason I had lost this info and was watching you tubers which ALL say to use the odometer. I was about to tear my hair out. I posted in another forum and the response I got was to read the manual. (I don't know about your manuals, but mine gives the very helpful instructions "if you service your vehicle, you will need to reset the maintenance light yourself" No instructions on HOW lol.)
Anyway after three days, the (insert colorful word) light is OFF!

This is exactly how I do it on my 2014 tC. Same method for my parents older Honda's before there were fancy color screens with little messages you could clear.

Never mind- just read the manual and reset it. It's tough being lazy.
