    Hey y'all :)
Long story short to the saga, I have decided to keep my Tacoma and put in a remanufactured engine.
After what I felt was literally an answered prayer at the time (mechanic was calling seconds after I was being prayed with...), I went with the reman engine he offered...a

    Powertorque 2.4 L engine with a 3 yr/unlimited mile warranty
    $2800 + $1200 labor

    Seemed like a good deal.

I said Hallelujah and put a deposit down. Still waiting for it to be delivered and put in but he ordered it. (btw, this mechanic has a good reputation and reviews of his shop)

Well I wish I had read the reviews of this Powertorque company before I gave a bunch of money...... what I'm reading is not good ...yikes.

Question for y'all (which I should have asked before....)
Is there a reputable and also affordable engine company out there? If so, who?
Think it's too late to say "Hey actually, can you get ______ engine? "

I am hoping for good news.....

    4 run, 2 don't
These engines are a dime a dozen, but one company I'll vouch for is Jaspers.

Used one in the past some many years ago.

Was in your position not long ago, couldn’t find and reasonably priced remanufactured engines. Ended up with a junkyard engine, but glad since I didn’t see good things about reman engines

I've worked on Toyotas since 2005 and I've never seen a reman engine, only new short blocks or used engine assemblies.

That price is higher than used, but the warranty is peace of mind and will do you well for a long time.

Good used engine out of a wrecked truck will outlast any remanufactured one.

Crate engines are usually long blocks with heads attached.

Toyota does piece by piece, so only short blocks are available for purchase. The 2.4 is no longer available for purchase likely so its used or reman only now.

Look up ram engines on Instagram

This is what I was quoted below, when I was looking at getting a low mileage tacoma with a blown motor.

"Will do the whole Engine completely rebuilt, swap, with all New internal QUALITY components, and Full Labor will even put in a quality Clutch and flywheel if it is manual transmission . For 2350.00, others , sale a used engine for 2000.00 alone with only 3-6 month warranty, I will give you 24month with installation and all NEW"

The downside to any of the reman engine warranty is your still going to pay labor to remove and install the engines unless your doing it yourself then it is just your time.

Then till the engine is shipped back and inspected and found to be a warranty failure or not can take a few weeks.

    Best of Luck

Buying a remanufactured engine from a company that “specializes” in remanufacturing engines isn’t a great idea - it means they’ve sourced the cheapest parts and probably don’t specialize in Toyota’s. Warranties are easy to get out of and you’re still going to pay a ton in labor if you’re not installing it yourself. Toyota does a great job of building engines - look for a running one out of a wrecked low miles vehicle or bring your engine somewhere that builds hot rod or highly reputable race engines if you must rebuild it. A quote from a race shop to rebuild my currently running engine was $1800 more than the used one with far less miles than my current engine so the answer was an obvious one.

Bad thing is, many years ago a lot of things were reputable that no longer are.
