I got an extra set of wheels for my winter tires so that I can switch back and forth myself at home. I read about the issues with TPMS error when the wheels are switched, so I got the Autel TS501 TPMS tool to fix this myself rather than paying a shop to do it. It seems to work fine scanning the sensors on the wheels, but I can't get it to program the ECU correctly. I scan the sensors in the order recommended, but then when I try to write the codes to the ECU, it always puts the sensors into the wrong spots (see attached pictures). It works fine in the sense that all the sensors get picked up and it shows on the dashboard display, but the positions are wrong so if I ever get a low pressure alert it would be on the wrong tire. Not a huge deal, but I'd like to fix it if possible. Anyone familiar with the Autel TS501 and how I can fix this problem?

The sensor IDs and locations based on scanning them as recommended:

Maybe move the new wheels with sensors to where the ecu says they are? Totally just thinking out loud on this. That’s definitely puzzling why it’s doing that. It’s like the ecu isn’t accepting the programming in the order the tool tells it to.

Or use the rest button and do some driving and see if they move.

The truck will find and correct the locations as you drive. I have checked this by setting a 2 psi difference front to back before rotating tires. I see the pressure display correct itself after driving. The TPMS reset button is not required to get the truck to learn location. Reset button only resets your low pressure warning location since that follows the sensor.

Good timing, not a 3rd gen but I just bought take off 4runner wheels that have sensors in them that I will use for winter tires.

Is the Autel the simplest way to get the truck to recognize the second set of sensors?
