Does anyone have any suggestions on R&R the thermostat on a 1996 3.4L Taco? Thanks, Woodcutter

Yes, make sure the jiggle valve is inserted at the 6 o’clock position on the 3.4l.

I replaced my thermostat yesterday along with new hoses, a cap, and a flush. When I got in there I found the old thermostat’s jiggle valve at the 12:00 position. I got this truck with 40000 mi in 06 and have since tacked on another 205000 mi. I have never had the thermostat replaced so I’m concluding it was installed wrong at the factory. By the way, my cooling temps were averaging 198-201 degrees F. I took her for a long drive today and now I’m averaging 185-188 degrees F :bananadance:

If your dead middle on the dash gauge I wouldn't be too worried about it. That's where its been on my truck forever and I've probably been running a little hot the truck's whole life. It hasn't caused any problems that I know of. I'm still on the original radiator too.

I got a obd2 scanner mainly to read codes and clear them. I also wanted to know my transmission temps in case I needed a cooler.
