Has anyone here replaced the starter to battery cable? My stock terminal broke so I put in military connector. The starter cable works but it’s a little too tight for comfort

I used a proper crimp tool for the new lug so no worries about it coming off, but when I get a real battery it probably will be too short l.68C247F1-67F4-4A5E-855E-20267088ED7E.jpgAB0754B9-2646-4CCD-A03F-F78BC1E81551.jpg

Yes, but I replaced the OEM cable with 2/0 gauge. I'm using same style terminals as you are. Cable and lugs came from Crimp Supply; good pricing and selection. Starter cable OEM gauge, if I recall correctly, is about a 2 gauge. I went larger gauge because I have a two battery system and the batteries are wired so that both can provide power to the starter if the need arises. For your setup, I recommend at least 1/0 gauge wiring to the starter. The wire will have less resistance and will transfer power more efficiently.

I was having electrical issues so I upgraded all of my cables to 2/0 as well. I replaced the terminals with military style terminals. It's not too difficult to swap out.

Did you have to use the factory heat shield that’s down by the header? I’d love dual batteries but don’t think I can justify it lol

Do you remember how long the cable needs to be ? Did you insert it back into the factory wire loom?

The factory heat shield remains in place but I'm only using it for the ground wire. I re-routed the starter cable to a Blue Sea switch above the fuse box. It's inside a wire loom and I wrapped the section nearest the exhaust with that heat reflective alum tape.

Sorry I didn’t measure. I bought about 10’ of new cable and cut the new one a little longer. I did place it back in the factory loom.

Does anyone have a wire diagram or additional pictures on how to upgrade the battery cables?

I recently purchased a northstar and the cables are a bit short so i am looking to extend them
