Walking around my truck looking for stuff to do, and it seems although one of my panels looks like it was never even clear coated, (or it needs to be polished) and as well I’m also having a lot of clear coat peel back where my bed is. I also have a spot on my bed where it needs some Bondo work, and what I’m wondering is how would I clear coat a small portion of my bed without getting overspray on my other clear coat? I just want it to look good ya know

Hey OP, I just did a quick, dirty fix on my 94. Here is the thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/is-this-peeling-hood-worth-diy-fixing.665211/#post-23316507

Anyways, are you talking about clearcoat overspray on the adjacent CC? To minimize that, after each coat of CC, expand you taped off area out about 1/2 inch. That's a quick way to 'blend' the CC into the rest of the body. I did this for my hood, its pretty seamless visually.

The real way to make everything perfect is sand the body piece entirely down to metal, and repaint/CC, and that's probably what a professional will tell you. My goal was to just improve my hood from fugly, to presentable.

    Here's what I did in a nutshell:
    1. Chipped away all fading/cracked clearcoat.
    2. Wiped down with mineral spirits
    3. 4 coats of duplicolor CC from Autozone. Followed the directions on the can.

That's it. Who knows how long it will hold up, because i didnt sand. But you can sand with 1000 and 2000 grit if you want.

Can you post some pictures of the spot?

It won't last w/o sanding and if you sand the base coat is super thin.

It's not unexpected. Keeping out of the sun is the best thing you can do for vehicle paint.

I don't really know if it's the brutal heat or the actual UV that just kills it here. I guess you have it a little better.

I need to try that on my drivers side fender.

I'm interested in this as well. I have a small area on the bottom rear fender where the clear is coming off. Went by several different body shops and they won't repair just a section. They want to redo the entire piece to make it all match perfectly, etc. I just want the clear part repaired and not looking for perfection.
The paint underneath is not damaged, and because it's on the bottom side, it doesn't get direct sunlight. Guy at the body shop said I may have run over some chemical or something that has weakened the clear coat.
I've got a new can of Eastwood's 2K Clear along with several grades of sandpaper to do it myself. I just haven't built up the nerve to do it yet.
My "plan" is to gently wet sand the area where the clear is coming off. Mask off, and apply the 2K clear coat making sure to fan it out to blend it in as much as possible.
The Eastwood's 2K Clear is expensive, but I'm hoping it will be more durable.

I'm sure that will do the trick. Even if it lasted a year or two, the price for 1/2 can of CC yearly is way better than a bodyshop going to town on an entire fender.
