    Hey TW!

I was wondering if anyone has replaced the front cigarette lighter 12V/120W for a power socket instead. My wife GX470 has one and we haven't stop using it since we bought her GX 6years ago!!! Below is a picture of what our GX has and it seems like it will fit perfectly in the small switch hole of the Tacoma. I wish Toyota would have include one of these socket instead of having two cigarette lighters in the cabin. Any thoughts?

You probably need some sort of converter to make 12v-120V

Although the GX socket "specification" is different from the Tacoma, the truck output is going to be the same. You are just swapping the cigarette lighter for a socket.

That’s not how that works. AC voltage and DC voltage are very different. Our cig sockets are 12v DC so you would need a power inverter to turn it into AC power.
We have that inverter, it’s just unfortunately only wired back to the bed, and not in the cab.

I think this mod would be a lot simple. I found that the 2017 4Runner cigarette lighter, the prong on the back are very similar to the GX. The 4Runner are closer to each other in comparison to the GX. Pics below.

(I haven't found a picture of the Tacoma cigarette lighter to see if the backing looks the same)

    You’re misunderstanding us.
It’s not just the plug that is different. The actual electricity in the wires is different.

I just stuck one of these in my armrest compartment (there is a cigarette lighter power supply in the armrests).

That may be an option, but it looks huge. Do you have an actual picture?

It's really not that big for a 300w inverter. It does need additional cooling which is why it's bigger than other inverters. I keep it in one of the compartments in the armrest. I plug it into the cigarette lighter power in the armrest when needed (this power source in the armrest is rarely used).

Will be tapping into the wiring inside the center armrest console this weekend. Installing a dual USB outlet for the rear passengers.

There is a possibility it may already be pre-wired. My 2018 came with a USB port behind the armrests. I then added a multiport in ghetto fashion.
