    Hey guys,

Fresh to the forum! I'm currently at 120k on my '06 4-banger and will be replacing my coolant for the first time. I'd like to install a new thermostat while I'm at it, and reading the FSM it states:

    1.
    INSTALL THERMOSTAT
    (a) Install a new gasket onto the thermostat.
    (b) Install the thermostat with the jiggle valve upward.
    HINT:
The jiggle valve may be set within 10° to either side
    of the prescribed position.
    2.
    INSTALL WATER INLET
    (a) Install a new gasket and the water inlet with the bolt
    and 2 nuts.
Does this procedure require two gaskets? Post #8 over on this thread says, "I went ahead and changed the thermostat since it is such a cheap fix. $14 thermostat, a $4 gasket and a little coolant later my truck is just like new," which makes me think there is only one gasket. Does the coolant hose require one? The FSM is rather ambiguous. Closest dealership is 45 miles and I'm buying OEM, so I'd like to get everything in one shot.

Wait, so....in this I'm seeing...THREE gaskets?! 16268G - water bypass pipe gasket, then 16326 - water inlet housing gasket, then 16325 - also called water inlet housing gasket, but appears to be distinct and different shaped than 16326 in diagram, but looks like an o-ring in the product list - presumably the wrong photo?

Further, the 16325 product description says it's for the 4.0L, when the page is specifically for the 2.7L (and the part number is in fact in the diagram)...I'm even more confused! Or does the fact that the product descriptions say "No. 1" and "No. 2" mean that each part number comes with the two needed water inlet gaskets? Did someone make some errors in the webpage?

There is a seal that goes under the thermostat and then a gasket that goes between the block and the thermostat housing.

So basically two seals one on the thermostat and one on the housing.

You do not need the bypass hose gasket as you do not need to remove it. Trust me you do not want to remove the bypass hose.

Eureka! Thank you Jimmy (and also Lester for providing the link). Think I'm going to pass on replacing it this coolant change simply because I'm about to do a long-distance desert road trip and would rather leave it alone for now (don't want to risk a leak in the middle of nowhere).

    But now I know!
