Does anyone know if Toyota sells replacement letters for the TRD Pro skid plate? I thought they just snapped in place but it turns out they use a double sided adhesive to hold them in.

I want to paint the skid plate black and retain the red letters, I hate the look of the bright silver color. Obviously I know they could be masked off, but that will take quite a while for a rather trivial task. I’d rather just remove the original ones, paint the whole skid plate black, and then slap on some new letters even if it costs a little extra.

I considered that but I don’t know if they’re the same size as the OEM ones.

Pretty sure they are, as both fill the factory embossing.

    I can measure mine...

    Tuffskinz Turbo Silver

Fit is identical to OEM. Just had the plate off this past week and the stick is still perfect. Extremely pleased with them. They've been on for approximately a year and a few months.

I have no doubts that the Tufskinz raised lettering is the right size for the earlier gen skid plates. What I’m unsure about, is whether or not Toyota changed the size of the lettering recesses between the two versions of the skid plates.

Which plate are you referring to? This is the revised plate with the red letters. I tried to order the original revision without letters as they phased out the embossed plate but they superseded my order with the new plate.

I was not a aware of a third revision.

That’s the one I’m referring too. My impression was that Tufskinz made lettering for the skid plates that came on the 2016-2018 models that had recessed “TRD” lettering but no red letters.

Here is a YouTube video of a guy who painted the skid plate. It looks like it’s easy to pop the letters off and just add adhesive back to it. May want to check into the plastic adhesive liquid as well.

Thanks for the info. I don't want to reuse the adhesive. I live in upstate NY in salt country and any gaps in the adhesive are going to collect salt and eat away at it really fast. That's why I was hoping to get some replacements. Plus I'm an anal retentive perfectionist lol;)

I simply peeled off the letters and put the Tuffskinz letters in their place. The plates appear to be completely the same less the alignment holes for the red letters.

I’m in the process of doing the same. The letters came off pretty easy and I’ve cleaned them up. I’ll add new adhesive and them place them back on. The paint looks good enough.

I’m thinking of pulling off red lettering and cleaning up/ painting or plasti-dip black with new adhesive. Anyone try this? Pics ? I think should work and look good, any thoughts? Thanks

Reviving this thread. Has anyone removed the Tufskinz Skid Plate Letter Inserts? Curious on if this is possible without mangling them. They are stuck on pretty damn well.

Looks good. My truck is white as well, it was a hard decision between the red and white.

I used Satin Black to give it a nice touch and make it easy to cover up any mishaps. But you may not be able to see it . If you zoom in really close the White doesn’t actually cover all the red . So I have a slither of red in between the black and white.
