I am missing one of the extensions for the tire iron kit for my 2005 tacoma. The old set is a bit rusty and the dealer wants over $30 for one extension, so I am looking for a newer aftermarket set.

Seems like all the aftermarket ones look like junk. With twisting metal etc. Anybody have any good luck with a quality made aftermarket set, or should I just cough up the dough at the dealer?

IMO, what you should really do is throw the rest of it away and get a decent (not even great) floor/trolley type jack and a 2 foot piece of 2x(6/8/10/whatever) to sit it on and a 4 way tire tool and keep it in there. If it makes you feel better, put some 1x2s around the edge of the 2 x whatever to stop the jack from rolling, even though it wont after it's engaged with the truck......unless the whole truck rolls.

I haven't found a good, affordable solution either. But, I would recommend looking for a full replacement from a 3rd gen. The extensions on the 3rd gen are much nicer - they snap together with little spring loaded pins (like an ez up, or handle of a pool net) rather than the thumb screws which have about a half thread and strip immediately.

Unfortunately, I haven't found an affordable source for the 3rd gen kit. I assumed there would be tons of people willing to sell take offs from their new trucks but that doesn't appear to be the case.

The spring pin things must have happened in the 2.5 gen (2012+) as mine has that style. So you guys can probably search ebay for the roadside tool kit for a 2012 and later if you want that style.
