Evening gents, my mechanic was trying to install my OME 2'' heavy lift on my tacoma, called me and said I need to order new strut towers... I can't find anything about this via google so I'm hoping you guys can help me solve this ASAP. He's the only mechanic in the area, he's been really cool with letting me do payments so my solution either needs to be of simple education of why it will fit, or I need to find strut towers that will fit... my wrenching capabilities are novice at best, thus why I'm paying someone else to do it while I'm at work.
He took everything off, couldn't get the shocks to ?fit? , swapped my rotors and brakes, and then gave me a call. I have to bring it back in next week anyways, but was hoping to have parts ready for him. Thanks for your help/ advice/ knowledge

Do I need new strut towers to install the OME 2'' Heavy Sport Kit?

Where and what strut towers do I purchase?

Why would he say I need new strut towers?

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
sounds fishy. Post the part numbers for the OME parts you have.

if your only doing a 2 inch lift you should not need new towers. now if you were going full long travel I would understand but not 2". something is wrong or he f'ed up and it costing you more money when it should be him paying for his f&%k up

lol he's not pushing the LCA out of the way far enough for some reason. Maybe the sway bar is still connected? I'm questioning this guy's mechanical skills.

It's a Chevron Garage Mechanic, but like I said, he's helping me out and it's my only realistic choice right now, lift kits, upgraded suspension etc isn't really his expertise so I agree he should know, but as long as
I can bring him new information on exactly what to do, he'll do it

Maybe print out some instructions and go down and see where he is with the install and what issue he is having? If he has no experience with lifts he may just be hung up and can't figure it out.

I'll try to find some online now, he put everything back together, installed my new rotors and replaced the leaf springs and rear shocks, it's the front coilovers that he's having an issue with. The previous owner was an engineer and after realizing 2.0's were too weak for the winch and ARB bumper, he fabricated some disks to support a 3.0 Coil on a 2.0 Tube. It rode very stiff but was surprisingly good, but the disks would squeak and I wanted to replace my leaf springs anyways. I'm wondering if he had to alter the strut tower

So I'm an idiot, I thought the OME kit came with top hats, they clearly don't. Right now I have swayaway coilovers on, but it's a 2.0 shock with a 3.0 spring, squeaks like all hell. Ordered a pair of dobinson top hats, they arrived today, hopefully everything goes smoothly tomorrow and I'll be posting how the OME suspension feels. Did have the headlights done while waiting on the top hats
