    Just saw this thread lol.
I'm a "wiggler" too. I've gotten so adept at it I can do it while rolling down the road in traffic.

Got it installed, no problem. Getting the back bolt out was kind of a pain in the ass but the rest of the process was otherwise easy to do. Weirdly, when I first installed it, every fan speed was high but after a couple minutes and playing around with the controls a little bit, the speeds began working properly and seems to be 100% right now.

The connector on the replacement unit is very snug, unlike the super sloppy fit of the OEM. No doubt that was the issue (like the TSB says).

Easier to splice if you leave the wires long, they tuck up fine. Also replaced the 5.5mm bolts with Phillips screws, easier to access

    Hey Tacomaworld,

So... I've been dealing with the notorious blower motor problem for a minute now.

Its starting to warm up here in SoCal and I'm done playing wiggle games time to get er' done.

I have replaced the harness and blower motor resistor with (i believe) the doorman kit.

Now i am not an electrician, so when my girl gets back with the truck I'm going to check all the crimping and stuff again, BUT...

I still have the only works on high problem, and sometimes it just doesn't work at all! FACK!

I noticed the wires coming out of the male plug that goes into the blower were looking pretty stretched out, and sure enough there was some burnt looking plastic on that male plug as well. It has some play in it when its plugged in so i am about to replace that too.

Question is, why would the blower not be working on the other speeds if i just replaced the blower motor resistor and harness?

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

    R

I am having the same issue with my 2013 toy taco. I found out from my mechanic friend at a local Toyota dealership that there is a stop sale on the wiring harnesses. He says that Toyota May be fixing to issue some sort of recall. Hope this helps

Mine worked fine on every speed except low....
I just ordered the doorman kit. When I went to replace my one I noticed it had what looked like a new harness (dated 2015). It had already been replaced...(I just bought the truck by the way..it is a 2006)
So I replaced just the resistor....now it blows high on every setting!
So.....is it a faulty resistor that I just bought?

Have you found a part number for this plug? My truck needs the "jiggle" to get this plug just right in order for my blower to turn on at any speed. Not looking forward to this winter.

    Working on it!
I noticed a long time ago my fan was weaker on lower settings and then blasted on high. This past weekend only high works and I just checked my wiring harness and it has that burned look on same wire, I believe, everyone else has. just ordered this part from Amazon and hopefully this will fix it. Just another "thank you" to everyone on this forum that make helpful comments. I just changed out my blower motor resistor with a new one from RockAuto ($25.68 with shipping). Dropped one fastener behind the carpet while trying to re-install the resistor, but was easily able to replace that with a spare. Added a touch of dialectic grease to each pin hole with a toothpick before clipping the pigtail back on just for good measure. Worked perfectly immediately.

I never did do a lot of my own maintenance before retiring, but now I pretty much do anything I can. Great job on the forum. Thanks again.

I did this about 3 weeks ago. Guess I'll be doing it again in about a year and a half! Wish I would have read this first, might have been a little more conservative on my wire cutting. Haha.

Spent many years working on balky mining machines in awkward positions and crummy surroundings. Common "grease" that helps electrical continuity is Vaseline. It is NOT dielectric - it is conductive and helps combat oxidation on battery terminals.

Toyota finally changed the type of connector they use for the resistor on the 2019 Tacoma. For anyone replacing the resistor, do yourself a favour and use the newer non-Delphi design.

    Resistor: 87138-04070
    Connector with Wire: 82141-04Q80

^yep. And for the wires, you match white/black to white/black, and then on the other wires, just ignore the stripe color. Blue/black->solid blue, etc.

@GREENBIRD56 that makes sense. It's similar to what is used in waterproof wirenuts.

I used a SAE socket, just a hair big but worked. What size you ask? The one that's a hair big. :notsure:

Ive installed the updated resistor and new plug with pig tail. When set on low blower blows the same as medium there is no change going from low to medium. Med-high works and high works just low acting up never did before?

Most likely you have the wires mixed up.

I checked and respliced. White/black to white/black. White to white/blue. Blue to blue. Green to green. Still blowing medium when set on low?
