I’m about to order new headlights. I’ve found OEM for $161.00 each from a dealer online.
Just wondering if the newer production lights will hold up better than the originals fro 17 years ago.

Are you talking about the headlight assembly, or the bulbs. You won't get new factory assemblies for $161 each. They are aftermarket, used or hot at that price. I was quoted $700 for a set 3 years ago from a local dealer. Could have gotten them for $650 direct from Toyota. My BIL owns a body shop and I had him order a set and have them sent directly to his shop. His price was $550 by using his commercial account.

But they made a HUGE difference in the appearance of my truck. I doubt they will last longer, but I got 14 years out of my originals. If i get another 14 I'll be OK with it.

There are an awful lot of adds for headlight assemblies under 200 dollars on a lot of Toyota sites.

If they are from a dealer then that is a good price. I bought new lights last year and they were almost double that. They did come fully assembled with bulbs.

OEM is always best, but yea - they're very pricey. Back in 2021, I needed some headlights on short order so I decided to give aftermarket a whirl. As I've mentioned in a few posts - I was at once time a dealer technician and well aware of how crappy aftermarket lights can be but the price difference, yikes, I figured if I could get a few years out of them it would be worth it. I live in Northwest Washington, which is relevant if you've ever been here. We get a bit of rain. When I got them, I ran a quick bead of clear windshield sealant around the glue they shipped with, just to be ultra sure they were properly sealed. So far, knock on wood, the lights have never leaked and still look great. Got them on Amazon. YMMV but I'm very happy with my purchase and if they failed tomorrow I'd probably order more for another 3-4 year run.

Replaced the headlights in my 08 back in March and paid $426(total/shipped) from toyotapartsdeal.com. Like everyone else has said, be sure of what they are quoting for that price, but it doesn’t sound too good to be true if I shot from the hip and paid just over $200

As far as today’s quality compared to a new lamp 17 years ago? That’s anyone’s guess. My OEM would have lasted longer if I had routinely treated them with UV sealant, so the quality of materials used and construction far exceeds my own level of give-a-shit.

I just ordered from a Toyota dealer. Just over 400 with shipping. I ordered just the assemblies. My bulbs are fine.
