I just changed my PCV Valveon my 14 v6. Has 57,000 miles on it. The valve is pretty blocked by hoses. I had to use a deep 19mm socket and a 3 inch wobble extension to access the valve.

My old PCV valve still worked but was covered in gunk and didnt rattle and cleanly as the new OEM pcv I put in.

What surprised me in doing this is learning youre not suppose to thread the PCV valve in all the way. Half the threads are exposed to open air. Yes I double checked to make sure I wasnt cross threading. I think this because the factory PCV was installed this way with this much threads exposed and because a youtube video told me. Also if you follow the 20ft lb torque spec recommendation, itll tell you to stop before all the threads are in. Your thoughts?

It's pipe thread it's meant to be taper fit, if you overtighten it you will crack the valve cover.
As for gunk buildup a small amount is normal, if it's excessive usually it's from not changing your oil often enough, using poor quality oil, or making alot of short trips.

Take the oil cap off and look inside. 57K seems premature for it to fail. Where you burning oil? That’s one of the possibilities that the valve has failed. The valve train shouldn’t have any sludge. If it does you’ve neglected that engine.
