    Just a quick review:
Sadly when I got my used 2020 the original owner did not get the LED head lights. So this left me with halogen bulbs and that nice dull 1970s yellow colored light. I think my back up lights are whiter and brighter then the head lights. I looked at the different options out there and went with DD H11-SL1 LEDs (SKU: DD0217P). I would have liked to change out the whole head light unit, but money is going too many other places.
I am very happy with the DDs. They are plug and play, give a very nice white light and are brighter. They also seem to provide a wider pattern over the OEMs. I would like even brighter, but there is that whole thing about blinding people. Darn.
Sorry no pictures, but the phone showed them to look the same and that is not the case.
Time will tell what their longevity is. Hopefully 10 years. lol
I may look to upgrade the high beam in a couple months.

If you want to get rid of your tired halogens take a look at the DD's.

I am not sponsored by DD, just like what I got so far.

I use the same from DD in high and low beams which I highly recommend. Get ready for all the BS coming you way about blinding on coming traffic, how much of an ass you are for using them and not reading the test performed a few years back which seems out dated as LEDs are improving everyday. I hope you enjoy your new lights as much as I do and hope others like you and I buy a great product like the SL1s.They are expensive but well worth it and in the end its our trucks and money so do as you please.

Weren't the DD LED bulbs recalled since selling LED bulbs as headlights is illegal?

Yeah they were, but now there’s a box you have to check when you purchase them stating “you acknowledge they are not for use in head lamps” or whatever. But people ignore that one

That's because of the cheap Chinese crap made a bad name for the LEDs. If people only knew how good the DD actually are.

You know that it's not the quality that makes them illegal to use as headlights right? It's the fact that they don't meet FMVSS standards because the headlight housings aren't made for LEDs that they are being used in. I use DD products in my headlight retrofits for halos and light strips, they are a top notch company, with top notch products. But using LEDs in halogen housings is not a good thing.

Ok thanks, maybe not for you but they perform better than any halogen I ever tried. I'm extremely satisfied with them as they perform perfectly fine. I think you mean using a poor quality LED is not the best but not the DD Sl1s work perfectly fine for me. I tried the ge mega 130s and they were no better than the stock crap. I'm sure there was more to it than i know and or care to know. Not looking for a debate or someone trying to convince me they are bad, as that's not going to work and if they are good, bad, okay to use or not use. Just happy and they work for me, but hey thanks!

You'll be lucky if the bulbs last 2 years. And you won't find better high beams - they're already the brightest they can possibly be

This SL1 test review posted here is outdated? Please explain.

Do you have a new 4th Gen Tacoma with different headlights? Do you have a new version of the SL1 that wasn't covered in the test? 4th Gen hasn't been released yet, and there is no update for the SL1 as the govt mandated recall on replacement LEDs effectively killed the product development. Meaning you have the exact same 3rd Gen halogen assembly used in the test and exact same SL1 as covered in the review. If you don't change the input variables, the output result doesn't magically change, it remains the same. It is called science.

Unfortunately people naturally judge light based on what is closest to them, aka foreground light. That isn't to fault anyone, there is a whole science behind it. Whats important in a headlight is projecting light further away over distance, and the very foreground light that people believe makes their lights better, actually makes them worse and is counter productive. What the SL1 does is just that, it provides increased foreground light that is higher in color temp. This makes people believe their headlights are better, even thought that isn't how a headlight is supposed to work. If you are really set on an LED replacement headlight bulb, the Morimoto 2stroke 3.0s covered here are the way to go. They are one of the very few replacement LED products that are higher output intensity than stock and have best in class focus for an LED, though they are still easily outperformed by halogen upgrades.

    i'll just leave this here

    SL1 vs halogen.jpg

its not that LEDs in our low-beams blind people (the projector shield mostly prevents that, other than the uplight)
its that they don't project light down road, where it is needed, as illustrated above
