For example, engine failure that occurs down the road or any problem that costs more to fix than the vehicle is worth. I will also include non-stop nickel and dime repairs, especially those that leave one stranded on the side of the road.

There are people in this world who wouldn't mind tackling something like this. I'm not one of them.

Correct, snorkels were designed to pull cleaner air from higher above the wheels compared to what the stock intake pulls.

Crossing water deep enough to submerge the stock intake well still present problems on modern day trucks with snorkels if they haven't taken other measures to protect sensitive equipment from water damage.

Brought mine back from an underwater swim, water half way up steering wheel. No nickle and dime repairs for me, almost 10,000 miles ago. Only two parts that failed on mine were the body computer and the electronic throttle control motor. I removed all computers, cleaned, treated with electronics protectant, reinstalled, and took the new throttle control valve apart and sealed it with silicone. Runs like a top.

While it's true factory snorkels are meant for dust control, how many Taco owners do you know cut up their fender to mount a snorkel for dust control?

How much did your repairs cost?

Thats a sucky thing to have to deal with...

My guess is that if you do all the repairs yourself it could be done under 5k. But you will have to be patient in finding cheap parts online...

Maybe check out an insurance auction to try to find a cheap wrecked donor truck...

Well free for the work Toyota did, covered under warranty. But I did all the other work myself, so all the spray and the new body computer, and then ripping out carpet and lining with commercial rubber spray...$150-$200 for everything, including the $70 for Toyota to hook it up to their fancy computer machine

Lucky you got warranty coverage or it would have cost a pretty penny I'm sure

    I dunno...
Thats currently a risky prospect with the "No horsing around" that the moderators have been enforcing...
A silly title is a good way to get a lock down...

I think the part was $450 and putting it on was $150.

This is true for any Jeep or Chrysler product older than 10 years in areas with road salt. Yes the truck will be less reliable than before, but not to a point that selling it is the OP's only option.

Congratulations on getting your truck back in working order.

I must say, I'm curious as to how warranty coverage applied to your trucks underwater swim?

They said every electrical part under the hood should be fully sealed from any moisture. It wasn't, so they covered it.

Most of the electronics in the tacoma are water resistant. It's called Conformal Coating.
There are a bunch of different ways to do it but basically coat the circuit board in something like wax that repels water

Maybe all this water fear stems from saltwater damage?? I have heard if the dash goes under in saltwater it's pretty much gone to galvanic? corrosion...I dunno, just what I heard

A little off topic but if I wanted to clean my engine bay what would you worry about covering.
