Are you changing the coils or just need to take the whole coil over off the truck?

Not for Kings. You need a real mounted spring compressor. The DIY style doesn't fit on the coil.

Just jack up the front and turn it with the wheels off the ground. It's kind of a PITA but I've done it a few times.

The issue with McPherson strut compressors, or at least the set that I have, is the jaws won't fit in between the spacing of the coil. They work fine on 2.0 coils but I couldn't get them to securely set on the Kings. YMMV.

You should be able to do that with a spring compressor on the Kings. On my 2.5 Fox coilovers in did one side at a time, using this inexpensive spring compressor (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PQLRP8W).

With the front on jackstands, I jacked up the driver's side by the LCA, installed the spring compressor on the compressed spring, lowered the LCA until the spring was barely loose, adjusted the spring perch as needed, then jacked the LCA back up and removed the compressor.

I think the issue with using this style compressor on the 2.5 body shocks is when you use them to compress the spring instead of compressing it and then using the tool to keep it compressed. The coil will not compress evenly and you end up marking up the shock body if you compress it with the tool.

Those jaws look like they would work just fine with the 2 part slip system. These are what I use and they do not work on 2.5" coils. Might be time to upgrade.

As mentioned above, jack up to unload the spring and WD-40 your way to glory.

Good info. That’s basically what I’m looking for, is to just hold the spring in place?
That was pretty much my plan, I'll see if Summit has anything like it, I'd like to start tomorrow.

Heavy duty tie downs wrapped around the coils helps too.

Trans Craft is the best shop in town, hands down. Not 100% sure he works on all makes though. If nothing else he’s an extremely honest stand up guy and I think would point you in a good direction.

    Merry Christmas!

Plan A was to ski this morning...Mt Rose and Hwy 80 closures foiled that. Then we were going to head up henness pass for some sledding but a bunch of stuck vehicles ruined that plan. This guy didn't want to get pulled forward out of the ditch and asked if I'd drag his front end around to get him pointed down hill. Totally unprepared in shorts with no recovery gear in his H3. Just up the road from him was a ridgeline on street tires...people are nuts. I dragged his back end around to get him on the trail and we all had to back down a couple miles before we could turn around. Total cluster.
