is there some sort of trick to removing the rear tail lights? I'm afraid of breaking it.

I have those two screws removed. It doesn't want to come out easily. I'm weary of just applying more force.

I just removed mine last week and had the same concerns, There are two posts and grommets, and it can take a bit of force to remove them. Just pull straight back(no side to side motion), and they should pop out.

i had the same problem when i was putting some guards over my taillights. like hondabuster said, just take the screwes out and pull straight back with some force. when you feel/hear the popping sound, they'll slide out easily. at that point, just make sure to completely remove them slowly so you don't snag and pull any wires.
