    Hi everyone.

I just got the truck last week and needed to add the bed extender. I’ve gotten use to having one in my last truck (2011 Tundra). Looked all over for steps to remove tail lights but all were for trucks up to 2023.

Well… Toyota changed the setup of the pins on the lights. It’s still two 10mm bolts, but instead of pulling straight back towards the rear of the truck, you need to pull outwards towards the sides. I kept pulling backwards like just about every other Tacoma video I saw and it wouldn’t budge. These are the lights with the tailgate button integrated.

Hope this helps someone in the future! See picture please.

I almost broke my tail lights and I would have been !

Did you install the Toyota Bed Extender or another brand ? How hard was drilling out the holes and putting in the backing nuts ? Thanks in advance !!

Yes I installed the Toyota OEM extender. I was mad because the bed extender I bought came with rivets and not the nuts and bolts. So I bought some stainless steel ones. The holes were easy to drill, already marked on the inside on the bed wall, but I measured just in case because there were no instructions included with the extender. There was some effort (and frustration) to tighten the 6 nuts, lock washers and LocTite. I lost my 10mm socket in there. It did not fall through. Maybe I should have bought a rivet tool.

    It’s doable… maybe 15-20 mins. Good luck!
