I traded from a 2012 to a 2021, in Magnetic Grey Metallic, this past weekend. Of course, it came with the blackout kit, which I understand is just ABS plastic overlays on the factory chrome badges. Since the SR5 comes with a chrome rear bumper, I am thinking about removing the overlays to balance out the dark/chrome ratio.

Has anyone removed their blackout kit without pulling off the factory badges? If so, any tips?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

You can try to just pull off the overlay, but might be easier to remove the entire badge and replace it.

If you use a heat gun and start to pull just the blackout kit overlay it will probably pop off without the emblem. Just heat up each section as you pull though instead of heating up the whole emblem. It will likely destroy the blackout overlay when you remove it as the plastic is so thin.

Just take them all off. Much cleaner. Everyone knows it is a tacoma with a v6 and 4x4.

I'd get caps to go over the chrome instead.
I hate chrome personally but if you like the look of chrome then: a heat gun, patience, and go slow.

I like to leave a little chrome just to be different. Every rig you see with any mods is either blacked out or shaved.
