I was successful in removing one of the truck bed floor mounting bolts (part #64189) in order to install a bed stiffener. But, I was unsuccessful in removing the other one. I've buggered it up to the point I can't remove it.

I was hoping someone else has the experience and can recommend a way to remove this bolt. It's 4.5" long and I doubt it's ever been removed. The previous one was very tight; I used a breaker bar with a T55 Torx bit to remove it.

I tried the same process on the second one, but to no avail.

I thought I'd just cut a slot in the head all the way across using a hand held grinder with a metal blade. Then taking a cold chisel, place the chisel head in the slot and with a hammer, try to break the bolt free. Should this work? Or does someone have a better idea?

This is the bolt I have to remove.

A chisel will be difficult since the bolt is so long, you lose too much energy through the bolt.

What i did was cut bolt head and chisel off, then lift bed and use vice grips to turn bolt.

My truck has zero rust but bolts were still rusty from collecting water.

You are correct; it is a long bolt. Can I still do what you suggest even though I have a Decked Drawer system that fits in the entire bed of the truck? Would I have to take that out? Or can I just cut the head off and then from the underside use vice grips to turn the bolt?

Tip for once u get it done and all others
Get under the bed and put a small length of rubber hose on the end of the threads that are showing fill end of hose with dab of silicone

Cut head into square and pipe wrench will easily undo it

I was going to suggest cut a slit on the top however I agree, too long of a bolt. Maybe cut the head off and unscrew from the bottom of the bed?

if you skip to 2:15 into this video i talk a little bit about how i removed one of the bolts. it was a pain but you just have to grind it into a socket size and then remove it.

Pahaf- Nice job with the socket modification, I have no doubt that it must have been a huge pain!

Try an allen head bit and tap that on there, then remove with impact wrench

You may want to try using a breaker bar and instead of just trying to loosen it, alternate between loosening and tightening maybe 15 or 20 times. After that try to just loosen. Sometimes the back and forth helps to break up the rust bond inside of the threads. You could also use the same basic idea if you have an impact wrench of some type.

Got the bolt out by cutting the head into a square shape, spraying JB Blaster and then used some large channel locks to break it free. Thanks to everyone for their ideas.

don't forget a dab of anti-seize on new bolts

And that the torque spec is reduced with anti-seize applied.

What is the torque spec for the bed bolts 64189-0c011 or as they are known now as 64189a?

I didn't bother with a torque spec on mine, just tightened the snot out of it. I figured it wasn't able to stay tight at the factory torque so I went farther.

Well I would just say that you should be careful. I would tighten mine, but my bed still rattled. So I had to remove the bolts to put a rubber washer underneath.

so I would suggest to go 35lbs or good and tight. No need to over do it, that you can undo it next time.

Never had a problem getting them loose. The problem was them coming loose on their own
