As the title says, how do I remove the shaft from a CV axle assembly? I removed the c-clip on the outer but it's too tight to slip off.

you mean the inner against the diff? easiest way to get the shafts out of the outer cv is to cut the shaft off than press the stub out of the star.

Some people have had luck with once you have the inner just to bare shaft they take the outer, slide it into a pipe and smack it on the ground and the snap ring can release and the shafts slide out. I’ve never even tried it and so I just cut the shaft as close to the cv as possible and disassemble than take it to a shop and they press the shaft out of the star.

Since it's a weekend, all I have is home Depot and Lowe's. I'm going to try 1.5" ENT (metal conduit) tomorrow. Hopefully that works. If it bends, I'll try welding a few pieces together.

Using a pipe slightly larger than the axle shaft, you can lift and then drop the assembly to separate the shaft. It's hard to explain in text. Use a piece of wood on the bottom of all of this, so when the axle drops it hits wood.

I’ve tried the pipe trick and failed more times than it worked. What I do on the stubborn ones is cut the axle shaft off close to the clover and then roll it to get the balls out and take it apart. Then use a hydraulic press to push out the remaining axle piece.

This is the only way. Pipe truck never worked, and after pressing them out, there is no chance the pipe slam would have done it. And using conduit, May as well use sch40 PVC.

The pipe has to be thick wall to transfer the shock. A thin pipe wont work. Pipe I used took 1 try on one of my axles.

I cut the axles off and pulled the balls out. There is a tire place next to my house that is going to press it out for me free of charge.

What about the new c-clip? I'm assuming it's going to get destroyed on the way out. Can I get a new one from a dealership?

Can someone confirm that the outer c clip "4342504030" is the same as the one that needs to be replaced?

I’m pretty sure your new axles will have the clip.

I bought my axles from Camburg. Camburg either doesn't ship them with new clips, or they forgot to put mine in the box.

So it's not happening. The shop maxed out their 30ton hydraulic press and neither of the axles are coming out.

I flipped mine back n forth to destroy the c clip. Ultimately they only come out one way.

I have a set of complete CV axles sitting in my garage so I have a backup. I may just suck it up and pay a local shop ~$250 to rebuild them.
