Can anyone tell me how to remove the front fenders of a 2001-2004 Tacoma? I'm guessing you remove the fender flares, fender liners and then unbolt it from the rest of the body but I want to be prepared for possible surprises.

Tried to search and found one thread that was ok, no luck on the youtubes.

I want to remove my driver side one to try to re-align it after it got tweaked from a LBJ bolt break many many years ago.

    Thanks

    this the bolts locations

yes, you should remove the fender liners first then depending of what model of flares you have, you may need to remove them or not. Some are drilled to the sheet metal, others are held through clips around the wheel wellls (in this case, you will have to unclip them to remove the liner)

I am almost certain I have chopped off the one that you have an oblong circle around that is below the headlight, but is there anything special necessary to get to the bolt that you have circled that is right between the headlight and corner light?

Don’t know if these help but this somewhat shows the bolt that is in the oblong circle.

If so, looks like I'll have to scoot my bumper off a little to get to it. Ugh

    A lot
If you have free time go to a salvage yard and try to practice removing the side panels of wrecked tacomas. More often the leftovers are the side panels which you can play around and pick up some extra bolts, clips or an engine. Goodluck

I had to replace my passenger side front fender a little over a year ago and had never removed one before...never had removed any body panel off my truck actually. It was really easy/straightforward, getting it off that is. Getting the new one on took a little more time because you really have to work it in there a certain way, for the life of me I can't remember which way that was though haha. I had to retry several times. There's gotta be a youtube video somewhere of it though. Also, I was installing an aftermarket fender and the fitment wasn't 100% which didn't help.

If I could do it as a first timer I'm sure you'll be fine, the first post showing where the bolts are is about all there is to know.

It's very easy, I unfortunately don't remember if I had to take my bumper off. But just go as far as you can and if you have to, well then you have to.

I didn't have to remove mine to do it, I had a stock bumper at the time but I think having an aftermarket one would probably make it easier

Unless maybe you have hoops that wrap around part of the fender

Oh and something to note to look out for. The threads on the bolts and nutserts are garbage. They will crossthread, very, very, did I already say very? Easily. I was also fitting fiberglass fenders. So that added to the difficulty for me.

Interesting... on mine I have a screw that is hidden under the headlight filler panel (purple circle)

Anyway, it seems to have been moved there (blue circle) on 01-04?

As for the oblong circle, I have two on this lip, but seems there is only one on 01-04?

Going to attempt this same part swap this weekend. Front passenger 1/4 panel on a 98. I just finished painting it and now gotta rip the old one off and stick this on. I guess I’ll find out which of these is for the Gen-1 and post back some pics. Cheers.

Flopped my truck on its side earlier this month. Going to remove the fender and also replace the door.
Q: For the fender liner, what specific clips do I need to order? Mine is a 99

    thanks
